Here Is Gone

"You and I got somethin but it's all and then it's nuthin to me, yeah." -He is talking about the fact that he had something romantic with a certain girl in his past but there are times in their relationship where it means everything (all) to him and times where it doesn't mean anything at all (nuthin).

"And I got my defenses when it comes through your intentions for me, yeah." -He qualifies his dilemma by blaming her. He has his "defenses" (hesitations, conflicts, etc.) because of her intentions for the relationship. Apparently they aren't on the same page with the relationship.

"And we wake up in the breakdown with the things we never thought we could be, yeah." -Because they don't have similar intentions they end up in the "breakdown" (trial, trouble, confrontation, etc.). At the beginning of relationships we always make promises of how we will be. Nobody thinks in the beginning that they will fight or have any serious problems or end up becoming jaded towards the other. But, he is realizing that his relationship with her has negatively escalated to the point where they both are becoming people that they "never thought [they] could be."

"I'm not the one who broke you, I'm not the one you should fear. We got to move you darlin." -In retrospect, he doesn't blame himself for the problems. She may be blaming him for many of their problems but he asserts that it wasn't his fault.

"I thought I lost you somewhere but you were never really ever there at all." -He wonders what happened to the girl he used to know. He tries to think of where he lost the girl he fell in love with. But, he realizes that he was blind and that she was never truly the girl he thought she was. This makes good sense with what he said before. He doesn't blame himself for their problems, he blames her for not being on the same page as him.

"And I want to get free, talk to me, I can feel you falling." -He done with the complications and wants to be free of the drama. She has started to close him out of her life but he wants to talk it through with her, not necessarily because he wants to stay with her. But, she isn't listening. She is "falling" out of love and is closing him out of her life.

"And I wanted to be all you need, somehow here is gone." -He admits that he loved her. He wanted to be all she needed but somehow he has lost it. What was once here (his love, affection, etc.) is now gone.

"I am no solution to the sound of this pollution in me, yeah." -He admits that what he is saying may metaphorically be pollution to her feelings. But, despite the fact that he has just told her that he once wanted to be her everything, having him in her life is not what he is getting at. As he said before, "I want to get free."

"And I was not the answer so forget you ever thought it was me, yeah." -He is reasserting his feelings here. He is not the answer to her sadness in the breakdown of the relationship. He does not want to stay with her and is so fed up with the drama that he wants her to completely give it up and forget that he could have ever been her "answer." He knows now that they were never good for each other.

Chorus repeats

"And I don't need the fallout of all the past that's in between us." -He doesn't want to rehash all the negative past that tore them apart. He is done with the situation and wants to be free of the hurt that he's felt.

"And I'm not holding on and all your lies weren't enough to keep me here." -He's not holding on to what they once had. He has let it go. Broken promises (lies) of how she will change and how things will be better don't phase him anymore. They aren't enough anymore.

"I know it's out there.... and I can feel you falling." -What was here (affection, love) is gone, but it is out there for him. Because he doesn't specify who, he may be talking about both of them. He is hopeful and he understands that she is still falling from the breakdown of the relationship.
