When you wish upon your star
Don't let yourself fall, fall in too hard

I fell into you, now I'm on my back
An insect decaying in your little trap
I squirm into you, now I'm in your gut
I fell into you, now I'm in a rut

Lift you up like the sweetest angel
I'll tear you down like a whore
I will bury your god in my warm spit
You'll be deformed in your porn

(Dirty, dirty)
Rock star, yeah (you're such a dirty, dirty)
Rock star, yeah (you're such a dirty, dirty)
Rock star, yeah (you're such a dirty, dirty)
Rock star, yeah (dirty, dirty, dirty)

You eat up my heart and all the little parts
Your star is so sharp, it leaves me jagged holes
I make myself sick just to poison you
If I can't have you, then no one will

I will bury your god in my warm spit
You'll be deformed in your porn

(You're such a)
Rock star, yeah (dirty, dirty, dirty)
Rock star, yeah (you're such a dirty, dirty)
Rock star, yeah (you're such a dirty, dirty)
Rock star, yeah (a dirty, dirty, dirty)

You are the one I want, and what I want is so unreal
You are the one I want, and what I want is so unreal
You are the one I want, and what I want is so unreal
You are the one I want, and what I want is so unreal

I lift you up like the sweetest angel
I'll tear you down like a whore

You're such a dirty, dirty
You little rock star, yeah (dirty, dirty, dirty)
Rock star, yeah (you're such a dirty, dirty)
Rock star, yeah (dirty, dirty, dirty)
Rock star, yeah (you're such a dirty, dirty)
Rock star, yeah (dirty, dirty, dirty)
Rock star, yeah (you're such a dirty, dirty)

I am the one you want, and what you want is so unreal
I am the one you want, and what you want is so unreal
I am the one you want, and what you want is so unreal

I listened to this the night I got home from watching The Passion of The Christ in the movie theater. When I got home I wrote a very dark string quartet song inspired by the movie. Then I started to feel like I always feel when I'm discouraged by religion. And I remembered some of the words of this song and listened to it. I think that since this night (that I also made a cover of the song), I've known what the song was about.

Alright, here's my explanation of what I think it means sentance by sentance...

"when you wish upon a star don't let yourself fall, fall in too hard"

This is him acknowledging how people take religious hopes and hates too far until they are in this whole other world.

"I fell into you and I'm on my back"

He tried to get his mind to think this way, but he realizes at this point that it did nothing for him other than waste his time and energy when he could have been doing something productive for someone else or himself.

"an insect decaying in your little trap"

He feels like religous people look down on honest people, like as if they were expendable "insects". The religious types tend to trap the "insects" into an "I'm better than you, you are going to hell" dellusion.

"I squirm into you, now I'm in your gut"

At this point, he's realizing that people might be actually listening.

"I fell into you, now I'm in a rut"

Exposure feels awesome, he is very excited, the people that can't get enough of him make him feel more confident, and the people that hate him hear:

"I lift you up like the sweetest angel,"

He can be nice to them, or...

"...I'll tear you down like a whore."

He can be destructive to them.

"I will bury your god in my warm spit, you'll be deformed in your porn"

If they wanna preach hate, let them preach hate, he doesn't have to respect it. Let people see them for what they are.

"rock star, yeah (you're such a dirty, dirty) rock star, yeah (dirty, dirty, dirty)"

"Jesus was the first celebrity. He kind of inspired the whole rock star ethic." —Marilyn Manson (from St. Petersburg Times)

"you eat up my heart and all the little parts"

it really hits his heart hard that people are this mean to eachother. And yeah, it also hurts the rest of the parts on his body, which don't seem to matter as much to him.

"your star is so sharp it leaves me jagged holes"

The religious folks try to glorify this terrible message that they are convinced that god has so much that it has hurt people who are like, "what the hell is going on here?"

"I make myself sick just to poison you if I can't have you then no one will"

I think he's speaking in 3rd mocking what a religous person is programmed to do.

"you are the one I want and what I want is so unreal"

He knows his mission is to try to take care of this growing hate that is inspired greatly by this reality that just isn't real to him.

"i'm such a dirty Rock star yeah..."

This is his message to parents, saying "this is how you feel..."

"(I am the one you want and the one you want is so unreal)"

he's saying, again, to parents, "I will now be your target of hate, because you think what I say is not about something that is real"

    Song Meaning

This is a song about the worm wishing to be something that could get back at the beautiful people. And it almost seems mythical that when he wished it upon a star it began to come true, and destroyed all of his dreams.

"When you wish upon a star, don't let yourself fall in too hard."

This opening line pretty much prophetic to the rest of the album. The worm wished upon a star, and it seemed to be coming true as the album progresses.

"I fell into you and I'm on my back, an insect decaying in your little trap. I squirm into you, now I'm in your gut. I fell into you, now I'm in a rut."

This is about what had happened leading up to the present. He had fallen into their schemes and lived life sedated from reality.

" 'I lift you up like the sweetest angel. I'll tear you down like a whore. I will bury your god in my warm spit. You'll be deformed in your porn.' "

This is the worm's plans toward the society of the beautiful people. Its not really spoken to them, but its what he would say to them at that time. Its like a promising threat. His wish to change their world and bring them down.

"You eat up my heart and all the little parts. Your star is so sharp, it leaves me jagged holes. I make myself sick just to poison you. If I can't have you then no one will."

This is also his thoughts about their society. He cannot fit into their world, so he wishes to destroy it.

"You are the one I want and what I want is so unreal."

He realises they are all dead inside, and that there is nothing to gain from fitting into their world.

    My Interpretation

This is my translation of what I believe the meaning of the song is, like most songs, it probably could be interpreted many ways. That is often the intention most artists have, an individual who hears or listens to the words applies it to their own personal experience.

when you wish upon a star in the album Antichrist Superstar, the star is most likely Jesus Christ. If we were to view Jesus Christ as someone speaking something other than the truth, we would realize how many Christian denominations or sects place strict rules on something that is not factual. This in turn makes corruption inevitable because the interpretations become countless. One interpretation a person(s) may have is that what Christ taught is meant to be applied to us individually, if he is the one and only son of God, yet we are all children of God, living his way would technically make us a Christ. Most Americans choose to accept Jesus Christ as their savior, in this context, star.

don't let yourself fall, fall in too hard everyone enjoys doing things that make them feel good and produce good results. Getting involved in a religion gives us a sense of belonging, we are no longer alone but included in a loving society that generally helps others. When other people are helped and we play a role in it, we may continue to pursue the basis on how this has occurred. Some people that have obsessive type personalities may turn their involvement in Christianity into a full-time avocation. Being obsessed we may also become a bit more close minded and our entire perspective in life becomes one-tracked. I fell into you and I'm on my back Becoming involved in such a society turns us into a small drop in a big ocean. We realize our position, our significance, we have given our all and now question what we have given it for and to whom. What we saw as all powerful has made us realize if we were to take part in this society we would still be powerless. Obsessed with views that we question that has become a way of life really becomes discouraging and it becomes easy for us to place blame on something or someone when we feel discomfort and agitation. an insect decaying in your little trap Again with the last paragraph, we feel as this way of life has become so consuming by this religion we have no room to make adjustments without condemning ourselves or going against the laws of the church or “God” as some would see it. Our insignificance can give us the equivalence of an insect…Mr. Manson uses the worm throughout this an insect is a small creature with six legs but a worm can be loosely classified as an insect for referential purposes and would still be accurate due to slang terminology and the evolution of the English dictionary…regardless no grammar rules apply in art. I have broken many myself and I am by no means a walking dictionary.
I squirm into you, now I'm in your gut We may recognize what this religion is doing to us, or possibly to others. How they have altered their perception and alienated their peers in the pursuit of heaven. This statement can be viewed as parasitic. The worm is actually the metaphorical tapeworm, his involvement in the act of Christianity will sabotage it as a whole.
I fell into you, now I'm in a rut A rut is a situation that boring and difficult to change, a mark made by a wheel or the time of year when some male animals are sexually active. I would go with the first definition. As a worm, the being in a situation of this type, he can do what he does best. Continue to survive off the host, compromising the hosts health.
"I lift you up like the sweetest angel, He may continue to be a member of the congregation praising God with the ulterior motives mentioned below. I'll tear you down like a whore. Time for action has come, after infiltrating the host for so long and bringing down others in the congregation he will explain his point of view and encourage others to follow. I will bury your god in my warm spit, The host, or the church, has become so weakened and fragile he has now found a place in leadership guiding the lost sheep and reclaiming a position for worship. you'll be deformed in your porn" Jesus Christ being the star, a partial dressed man on a cross now is portrayed as a man that misled so many people throughout history. rock star, yeah (you're such a dirty, dirty) rock star, yeah (dirty, dirty, dirty) Christ is the rock star and the number one offender for his former followers’ confusion. He was never clean because of the results that occurred with those that accepted and worshiped him. you eat up my heart and all the little parts An explanation for his actions. The church causes him to react the way he did, Christ’s church.
your star is so sharp Christ being sharp could mean a couple different things. I would assume witty and intelligent with the ability to harm those it comes in contact with. it leaves me jagged holes He has become harmed because he has had contact with Christ and the others that think they have too. I make myself sick just to poison you He has become the new star now, the new God/object of worship and the only way he can show his love and strength is to alter the perception of those who worship him. Becoming sick would be along the lines of being crucified, for the cause, he become the martyr, solidifying his place as God. if I can't have you then no one will If he is not accepted as their God, then they will not be accepted by God. In Christianity, you must accept Christ as the truth, the same thing applies here. (chorus) you are the one I want and what I want is so unreal He wants to be Christ/God, the reality of it (in his eyes) is that it was false the entire time. Therefore, nothing would really change if he were to take that position. i'm such a dirty Rock star yeah... Again, he is God aka rock star. This entire song could also refer to how people place rock stars in a position of worship just like Christians do in Christ. The truth is that rock stars and Christ were just human beings, not meant to be worshiped like gods. (I am the one you want and the one you want is so unreal) With that previous statement, we gave Christ that power as God. The same role that Manson plays with the delusional followers. There is not much of a difference except the number of people to verify with other numbers that what they believe in is reality. This is song is meant for us to really examine the evidence in what we so strongly value. Thank you- this is simply my interpretation but I believe it was so skillfully presented that others may not have taken it as a use for growth by spiritual means.

This is about when the worm enters the boy, turning him into a man. And changing the way he thinks, he now wants to be a rock star.

If you listen to the album in its entirety you will see what I mean.

I am the one you want and the one you want is so unreal

Isn't it "somethin' real" and not "so unreal"? That's how I hear it anyway. To me, this song seems to be mostly about an actual relationship, but also something approaching what Muzzy was talking about...

Hmmm...Maybe he looks at Deformagrophy instead of pornography in his spare time, since a lot of his videos have deformed people in it. He must like it.

about being attached/addicted to someone while knowing that they aren't worth it. it relates to deformography in that one person is both obsessed with and repulsed by the other's imperfections. nothing to do with [religion].

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way.
