This is the point in the concept album where Dane's recurring dreams of his lost girlfriend/friend lying dead at the bottom of a lake come to the forefront.
If anyone's wondering, a cenotaph is a monument erected to a dead person whose remains have never been found/are in a different location.
That's right. And in calling on her to awake he is also calling to everyone who is passively letting the horrors of the world to happen to them.
I hadn't think of the "awake" thing like that... that's a nice theory.
It wasn't Dane's [girl]friend though, it was his fiancée... and she didn't drown in a lake, she got involved with a nasty religious drug cult and disappeared. She is presumed dead. Dane said he started having dreams of her drowning years after it happened, and that's when he decided to write this album.
It's much more tragic than some people think...
