In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:

I see this all as being directly said to her lover, presumably a rich man. In the main verses, shes predicting a divorce, talking about running away with his money, shown in "fancy a fast car, a bag full of loot". And in the chorus she's denying what she said in the other verses, calling it a joke, and claiming her love for him over and over.
Depending on interpretation, that could either mean she really truly loves him, and when she tells him it'll end badly she's just joking to distract herself from how much she loves him. You could also interpret it as a kind of satirical song about a woman who is really seeking monetary gain, lets slip her intentions a few times, and has to cover it with monumental proclamations of love. I personally think the first interpretation is slightly more likely than the second.
Either way you interpret it, there's some fear of commitment in there. If I was the man she was singing this to, I'd be pretty confused and apprehensive. So maybe she's trying to throw him off and keep him at arms length, because she's not ready to tie the knot yet. And the song title 'distractions' could be her trying to distract him from the idea of marriage.
This song could really mean any number of things, but that doesn't stop it from being beautiful...
