I slept through Easter yesterday,
Right through Christmas, just the same.
The priest came up to me, all up in arms.
He said: "Devil boy, what have you done?"
Hey devil boy,
We're gonna blow you're house in.
Hey devil boy,
What do you think of that?
For heaven's sakes,
It's only been two thousand years.
I can't wait any longer for you.
The Jesuits rolled in their tanks, to my front door,
While the Capuchins held a love-in on my front porch.
The Augustinians kept to themselves, stuck their tongues out in a row.
They said, "Devil boy, it's off to hell you go!"
Hey devil boy,
We're gonna blow you're house in.
Hey devil boy,
What do you think of that?
For heaven's sakes,
It's only been two thousand years.
I can't wait any longer for you.
And so I'll sit and pray for her to call me there.
And I'll burn that bridge a thousand times, on the cross I bear,
Just to wonder if you're listening from a soap box in the sky.
To finally realize my price, was it you or I?
Hey devil boy,
We're gonna blow you're house in.
Hey devil boy,
What do you think of that?
For heaven's sakes,
It's only been two thousand years.
I can't wait any longer for you.
For heaven's sakes,
I'd give away eternity,
If you would come back to me, if you would come back to me.
If you would come back to me, if you would come back to me.

I really love this song, but I think my take on it might be a bit unpopular, but anyway, here's how I see it. The song starts out seeming like a basically irreligious song. But when he sings, "I'd give away eternity/If you would come back to me," it gives the song a different meaning. Here's how I see it: the guy in the song's girlfriend (or at least female friend) died, and he is depressed. He slept through Easter and Christmas (which to him don't matter anymore). And now these people are trying to pull him to god, but that's not what he wants. If he prays at all, it would just be for "her to call [him] there" ("there" being heaven). He'll give up his life to be with her. And at the end he says that he would "give up eternity" to have her with him again.

I think this song is sort of about whenever someone does the smallest act opposing a 'law' of a religion, the religious leaders suddenly go into an uproar about it, when all that really matters is faith itself.

All that aside, I really like the guitar and vocals in this song. They give me goosebumps. ;x

Came across this tune not too long ago and my jaw dropped. It's brilliant and works on so many levels. He uses satan(the story of Adam and Eve) as a metaphor for himself, his relationship (with the Eve) and it happens to work as an archetype if you will. The bible clearly states that women were a curse, because Eve ate from the tree of knowledge and really stuck it to us men.

Though he is talking about his own relationship he also gives the underlying rewriting of the Adam and Eve story. In this case satan offered the fruit as a gift to win that first one, the first love (Eve) and he's been waiting 2,000 years(biblical timeline) and upon the end of his (satan's) reign the christians are at his door and telling him his time is done...and all he keeps explaining is that was he was waiting for the ONE that got away.

    Pretty damn cool ain't it?

    Song Fact

The meaning of this song is very clear. He slept through easter and christmas becouse he was depressed. His depression was clear he wanted answers. the church meaning all the types of people were full of hate and other forms of interpretation that reminds you of a cult. He speeks of it being 2000 years well long enough to wait. When he says he will sit there waiting for her to call him there. Its meaning is her is mary mother of jesus.. and there is heaven.. his convictions are very strong for he feels like he has suffered a price greater than jesus.. He is listening from a soap box in the sky.He finishes with saying that he would give away eternity if he would come back to him. (Meaning earth). Which is the ultimate sacrifice. Something that jesus supposedly did.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
