Hey hey
Come on, come on, come on
Come on and do it
Come on and do it
Hey
Do it, do it, do it

It's just another thing keep your eye fixed on the road
Do what your mama said
I will not be told
Keep your mouth shut, keep your legs shut
Go back in your place
Blameless, shameless, damsel in disgrace

Who cares what they say
Because the rules are for breaking
(I'll said ya)
Who made them anyway
You gotta show what you feel
Don't hide

Come on and do it
Don't care how you look, it's just how you feel
Come on and do it
You gotta make it real
Come on and do it
It's time to free what's in your soul
You gotta get it right, this time
Come on freak out lose control

Remember things like this should be seen and never heard
Give a little respect to me & it will be returned
Keep your head down, keep your nose clean
Go back against the wall
Girl there's no way out for you
You are sure to fall

Who cares what they do
Because it's yours for the taking
So it's not for you anyway
Make your own rules to live by

Come on and do it
Don't care how you look, it's just how you feel
Come on and do it
You gotta make it real
Come on and do it
It's time to free what's in your soul
You gotta get it right, this time
Come on freak out lose control

You might do the wrong thing (might do the wrong thing)
for the right reasons (for the right reason)
Don't just do the right thing (don't do the right thing)
to be pleasing (to be pleasin Baby)

Who cares what they say
Because the rules are for breaking (I'll said ya)
Who made them anyway
You gotta show what you feel don't hide

Come on and do it
Don't care how you look, it's just how you feel
Come on and do it
You gotta make it real
Come on and do it
It's time to free what's in your soul
You gotta get it right, this time
Come on freak out lose control
Come on and do it
Don't care how you look, it's just how you feel
Come on and do it
You gotta make it real
Come on and do it
It's time to free what's in your soul
You gotta get it right, this time
Come on freak out lose control
Come on and do it
Don't care how you look, it's just how you feel
Come on and do it
You gotta make it real
Come on and do it
It's time to free what's in your soul
You gotta get it right, this time
Come on freak out lose control

They pretty much sum up the whole song with the line, "Make your own rules to live by."

    • "it's just another thing you gotta keep your eye fixed on the road. do what your mama said, i will not be told. keep your mouth shut, keep your legs shut, go back in your place. blameless, shameless, damsel in disgrace." (you've always listened to what your mother has told you to do. you're being pushed around like a doll, always following your mother's rules.)

    • "who cares what they say, because rules are for breaking. who made them anyways. you gotta show what you feel, don't hide." (sometimes, you just gotta stop listening to the rules and follow your heart. don't be afraid to speak your mind, or do thing that you want to do.)

    • "come on and do it, don't care how you look it's just how you feel. come on and do it, you gotta make it real. come on and do it, it's time to free whats in your soul. you gotta get it right, this time. come on freak out, lose control." (this part is encouraging you to be something different, don't blend in.)

    • "remember things like this should be seen and never heard. give a little respect to me and it will be returned. keep your head down, keep your nose clean, go back against the wall. girl there's no what out for you, you are sure to fall." (this is, again, talking about the "rules" you hear as a kid. 'a lady so be seen, not heard', 'respect is a two way street', 'don't ruin your reputation', but they point out, if you always follow the rules you won't get anywhere in life.)

    • "who cares what they do, because it's yours for the taking. so it's not for you anyway, make your own rules to live by." (do i need to explain this?!)

    • "you might do the wrong thing, for the right reason. don't just do the right thing, to be pleasing." (if you step out of the mold you're living in, you're being true to yourself. don't be fake, just to please others. DON'T put yourself in a situation that makes you feel uncomfortable.)

This song has been like theme song since I was like seven. It taught me at a younger age to be different. I honestly believe, if it wasn't for The Spice Girls, I wouldn't be who I am today. GIRL POWER!!!

Yes the first post is the opposite of the meaning of the song. The first verse is being sarcastic. They are supposed to be in the perspective of general society, telling you how to live and what is proper. This song is really about self liberation, especially for WOMEN. That's why they say damsel in distress. Women have been oppressed for ages. Especially when it comes to self expression and sexuality. Lines like "keep your legs shut" "keep your mouth shut" "remember things should be seen and never heard "get back in your place" are ideas that society have expected women to follow for ages. They are basically mocking these gender codes. This song is saying that you need to take control of your life and make your own rules. Rules are not always right "Don't just do the right thing to be pleasing" Remember they are all about GIRL POWER! This is one of the more powerful songs with a real message.

Prowler Kid, I think you're totally off. I think the first verse is basically saying what everyone tells kids:

"It's just another keep your eye fixed on the road Do what your mama said I will not be told Keep your moth shut, keep your legs shut Go back in your place Blameless, shameless, damsei in disgrace"

And then the next verse is saying fuck that, do whatever you want:

"Who cares what they say Because the rules are for breaking (I'll tell ya) Who made them anyway You gotta show what you feel Don't hide"

Mel B should definitely listen to this song before she walks out the door every morning, because she is getting a little too raunchy. I mean come on, how many bastard children does she need? One is enough, god will punish her.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
