    Song Meaning

Bilinda told in an interview that this songs it's actually about the father of her son, Toby.

Here's the quotation of the interview:

"Ever since Isn’t Anything I had panic attacks. Toby’s dad treated me really bad, which I’ve told about in No More Sorry. All of a sudden he wanted joint custody and I was frightened. The hypnotic therapy made things from my childhood resurface which explained why I had been living with such a man. I was a nervous wreck and I realised that a lot that happened when I was a kid shouldn’t have happened. A lot of it came out in my lyrics. A lot of discomfort."

I think we could all agree this is the single darkest MBV song, musically and lyrically.

It's spooky and addictive. I also think it's about abuse...

I think it's about incest with a sibling ("don't tell daddy"). Like squaresun said, this is a great song but it makes me nauseous.

Well, this song is either about an abusive parent/spouse/significant other/something like that or! Its somehow related to rape o.O either way, good song...

this song just gives me chills. mostly due to the very dark meaning of this song. the song is about someone in a abusive relationship. from the point of view of the abused person, they try to hide it. the most scary part is that the person accepts it. it's just a very dark song.

I take this as being from the perspective of a daughter whose father (violently?) sexually abuses her. I think the line might be "in my hair" rather than "in my head"...maybe the "fingerprints of you"=semen? I picture a girl in the shower obsessively washing herself afterwards, as well as "washing and mending" psychologically.

The most unsettling line is "loved me black and blue". Really captures the queasy nastiness of incest, if that's what it's about, where the child's emotional desire for affection is responded to with sexual lust and violence and degradation.

This is a fantastic song, but I can't listen to it much. The way I've interpreted it, it makes me genuinely unsettled. The blurry, stomach-churning music itself fits very well with the apparent subject matter. brr.

I don't think it's saying "daddy" in the song. It sounds much more like "dirty" with an English accent.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Magical

How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
