Well I won't make you tell me
What I've come to understand
You're a certain kind of woman and
I'm a different kind of man
I've tried to make you love me
You're tried to find a spark of the flame that burned and
Somehow turned to smoke ring in the dark

The loneliness within me
Takes a heavy toll
'Cause it burns as slow as whiskey through an empty aching soul and
The night is like a dagger
Long and cold and sharp
As I sit here on the front steps
Blowing smoke rings in the dark

I- I- I know I must be going
'Cause loves already gone and
All I'm taking with me are the pieces of my heart and
All I'll leave are smoke rings in the dark

The rain falls where it wants to
Wind blows where it will
Everything on earth goes somewhere
But I swear we're standin' still
So I'm not going to wake you
I'll go easy on your heart
I'll just touch your face and drift away
Like smoke rings in the dark

I- I- I know I must be going
'Cause loves already gone and
All I'm taking with me are the pieces of my heart and
All I'll leave are smoke rings in the dark

"Well I won't make you tell me What I've come to understand You're a certain kind of woman and I'm a different kind of man I've tried to make you love me You're tried to find a spark of the flame that burned and Somehow turned to smoke ring in the dark"

^^^^^^^^^^ The beginning of the song is saying that he has come to realize that they are not meant for each other......he tried to make her love him, she tried to find the spark....but the flame burned out and turned into smoke rings in the dark.

"The loneliness within me Takes a heavy toll 'Cause it burns as slow as whiskey through an empty aching soul and The night is like a dagger Long and cold and sharp As I sit here on the front steps Blowing smoke rings in the dark

I- I- I know I must be going 'Cause loves already gone and All I'm taking with me are the pieces of my heart and All I'll leave are smoke rings in the dark"

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ The second part is talking about how he is literally setting on the front steps, lonely and contemplating what to do next.....it goes on to say that he knows he must leave her because their love is already gone and all hes gonna leave are the pieces of his heart (obviously shook up about the whole thing) and all he will leave are smoke rings in the dark.

"The rain falls where it wants to Wind blows where it will Everything on earth goes somewhere But I swear we're standin' still So I'm not going to wake you I'll go easy on your heart I'll just touch your face and drift away Like smoke rings in the dark"

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^

This last part is him coming to the realization that their love is in a standstill.....and then he leaves her saying he'll go easy on her heart......hes just gonna touch her face then drift away like smoke rings in the dark.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
