What became of everyone I used to know?
Where did our respectable convictions go?
Your words don't match the story that your actions show
What do I know?

I'm sure you can't help but remembering
I thought that you'd be the one not to forget
Remembering's not helping you yet

Say goodnight means goodbye
I know you think my life would stop when you're away
Maybe I can see you on the holidays
You're worlds away
I've never forgotten all our yesterdays
But I'm lucky if we're speaking on the holidays

The evidence presents itself accusingly
Your absence speaking everything you think of me
Now that I am faced with opportunity
You're not remembering

I'm not asking you anyway
And even if you ever could cave in
I wouldn't know where to begin

Say goodnight means goodbye
I know you think my life would stop when you're away
Maybe I can see you on the holidays
You're worlds away
I've never forgotten all our yesterdays
I'm lucky if we're speaking on the holidays, holidays

Say goodnight means goodbye
I know you think my life would stop when you're away
I'm lucky if we're speaking on the holidays, holidays

Being an emo band it's hard for me to think it's about anything other than a girl. Not to say it's bad, I freaking love this song.

I get a feeling of maybe his exgirlfriend went to college (she's in town for the holidays) and they do that empty shallow fake conversation that you do with people you don't know anymore. And the old days will eventually fade into the memory bank and life will go on....Except for The Get Up Kids. ;)

I remember all those promises you made about your life and us but you're not living up to them. "But what do I know?" I haven't forgoten our past and you just don't want to remember it, I thought you would be the one not to forget. Our last night you said goodnight but you meant goodbye and now you're gone and far away. But maybe we could see eachother on holidays (metephorically saying -you ignore me all the time now that we are apart but you could at least give me a fake "hi" and smile on holidays). You're avoiding me because you don't want to admit anything about the past, especially now that theres an opportunity. But even if you did "I wouldnt know where to begin."

emo doesn't mean the music is about a girl, it means it is about relationships, any kind of relationships, which include friendships, not just dating relationships.

but most songs ARe about girls. I think this one is about a girl. Who would say "I know you thought my life would stop with you away." about some guy. that just doesn't sound right. Its about a girl

i'm not sure why, but i seem to get the feeling that (for some unexplained reason) it might be about an adult or someone in the family that's leaving or something... like a father who runs out. but the song itself, if you disregaured the lyrics, sounds pretty upbeat to be a sad, tragic song!

i think this song is about a girl or a family member or friend who lied to him and maybe he won't be wanting to see him or her any day, only in christmas or something... it can also be about someone he loves that lives far away from him...

This song can talk about a relationship where one person feels that the other one will not live without the other one but little do they know that this not true.

this song is probably saying how he is finally seeing a friend or person he has grown so close to after a long period of time. he feels that the person might have forgotten about him and he doesnt know exactly what to say when they finally meet again. great song.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
