Is It Like Today Lyrics
Many years ago he looked out through a glassless window
All that he could see was Babylon
Beautiful green fields and dreams and he learned to measure the stars
But there was a worry in his heart
He said "how could it come to this ?
I'm really worried about living
How could it come to this ?
Yeah, I really want to know about this"
Is it like today ? Oh, ooh
Then there came a day it moved out 'cross the Mediteranean
Came to Western isles of Greek young men
With their silver beards they laughed at the unknown of the universe
They could just sit and guess God's name
He said "how could it come to this ?
We've been living in a landslide
How could it come to this?
Yeah, I really wanna know about this" Is it like today ? Oh, ooh
Then there came a day man backpacked and flew off of the planet
He went to the moon (to the moon)
Now he's off in space, fixing all of the problems
He comes face to face with God
He said "how could it come to this ?
I'm really worried about my creation
How could it come to this ?
You're really killing me you know"
Is it like today ? Oh, ooh
Is it like today? Oh, ooh

Didn't know much, not much, but he saw

Yes, this is originally a World Party song, also covered by Eliza Gilkyson.
And it's not about God, it's about man's 'progress' through the ages, and how we've always been searching for the deeper meaning, god, creation, all that. And below the constant wondering, the people seem to be more like God as the song goes along, but it all still appears to be written from the point of few of that part's 'speaker', a man.
Is this song a remake? Is the World Party version the original, is this the original, or is it just some other entirely different version?
I am not sure if it is a remake or not, but to me the song is about God looking down at his creation through time and asking himself how he could have let the world get away from him.
