"My Evil Twin" as written by John Linnell and John Flansburgh....
My evil twin, bad weather friend
He always wants to start when I want to begin
It scares me so, like I scare myself
With that book of Nostradamus up upon my shelf

Playing hangman 'til the morning light
Doing donuts on the neighbors lawn
Then sleep all through the day, get up and start again
I can hear some sirens somewhere but I don't know why

My evil twin runs home again
Search lights look for an alibi, but I'll be home by then

Here he comes again, my evil twin
My friends have seen him hiding underneath my skin

Who cut the arm off the voodoo doll
That resembles a Republican president from long ago
I'd hate to see you leave
'Cause I have grown so grateful for the
Blame you save me from

My twin
My twin
My twin

(My twin) I know he looks like me
(My twin) Hates work like me and walks like me
(My twin) He's even got a twin like me

My evil twin, bad weather friend
I know some day I'll meet him
But I don't know where or when

General Comment"My evil twin / bad-weather friend / he always want's to start when i want to begin" - finding somebody at fault for doing the same thing you do anyways.

the rest just seems to be about finding a scapegoat for something you've done simply because you have no real excuse

General Comment'He even has a twin like me' implies that the narrator is _also_ an evil twin...brilliant.

General CommentYeah, I think like NQArbuckle said, it's about finding a scapegoat. Lines like "He always wants to start when I begin" just make me think that he really likes doing whatever "the evil twin" wants him to do.

General CommentI don't think there is an evil twin. He probably is the evil twin [hey like in Fight Club!] "My Friends have seen him hiding underneath my skin" He's explaining his evil side, or making a lame excuse. "No! It was my evil twin who did donuts on the neighbors lawn!"

General CommentI'd say it's less like Fight Club and closer to Dexter. It seems less seperate, like just his bad side. I like the part with the evil twin running home again, but says "I'll" be home by then.
The song seems to focus on them being the same guy, like everyone's saying, but I think it's more about the narrator dissociating his own bad behaviour, and his friends know full well what he's really like, but he's sticking with the "who, me?" sort of innocence for his own sake.
It reminds me a lot of something with the character my screenname is from, where instead of reconciling something he did, he flat out denies it to a witness, going "True, he did it, but it just wasn't like him" (it is). I think that line sums up the general meaning of this song as well.

I think some or most of the blame might be his own.
