"In a Lonely Place" as written by Ian Kevin Curtis, Peter Hook, Stephen Paul David Morris and Bernard Sumner....
Caressing the marble and stone
Love that was special for one
The waste in the fever I heat
How I wish you were here with me now
Body that curls in and dies
And shares that awful daylight
Warm like a dog round your feet
How I wish you were here with me now
Hangman looks round as he waits
Cord stretches tight then it breaks
Someday we will die in your dreams
How I wish we were here with you now

General Commentto relate to this song is to know the the true meaning of loss..

...it's desperately holding on to the only thing left to grab from this person.... 'marble and stone' their tombstone, stuck in the constant pain of their lost, that you're left with nothing else but the thought of awaiting your own self served death but 'the cord breaks'...

...so all you can do is wish that they were but there with you now...

..i'm a huge joy division fan, but i think this is the only song that the way ian curtis sings 'how i wish you were here with me now' not only shows the emotion (as most his songs do) but is sung so painfully and desperate that it leaves you too yearning for the return of this lost in this song

General CommentA figure sits at the gravesite of her beloved 'carressing marble and stone'. Their love meant more to her than it did to him. It was not enough to give him the desire to live. "Cord stretches tight then it breaks." ...It's as if Ian was imagining how it would be when he went through with hanging himself...

General CommentJust what i was about to say. This song has to be one of the most depressing I've ever heard. Great song though

General Commentthis song was apperntly written days before Curtis hung himself, This song and "Ceremony" both were Demo'ed at Graveyard Studios, the last two songs Joy Division would record together.

Lyric Correction"Heart shares that awful daylight"

Am I the only one who hears "hardships that often delight"?

General CommentAlso, just letting everyone know that the full version of 'In a Lonely Place' was FINALLY released a couple of weeks back for Record Store Day 2011! The single (vinyl only) was limited to just 800 copies, but there are quite a few going on eBay!

General Commentsong is about a guy making love to a woman he loves but he is the only one feeling pleasure ( Caressing the marble and ston Love that was special for one The waste in the fever I heat) even tho he wishes for her to feel the same (How I wish you were here with me now). dying probably means c*mming and he's excited like a dog around her feet but she doesn't care. he waits for her to die(c*m) looking around, trying to last longer but just as she gets close he finishes (the cord stretches tight then it breaks). then he says someday they will both die and it will feel like a dream for her and he wishes it was now
