dear Joan
I’ve almost forgotten, the pane in the window
blue dress in the doorway
dear Joan
help me remember, the face I forget
and the traps that I’ve sprung
I guess I’ve grown tired, it’s just what’s expected of me
to tear your heart from the inside to the outside
you know I was wired, I just couldn’t help it
the hundred thousand times I hurt you

CHORUS:
dear joan, I wanted to say
that I’m sorry for the screaming last night
and the nights before
well I’ve wanted more from this
than anything I’ve ever known
dear Joan

dear joan
your face has a brightness that I’ve never seen
in the years that I’ve known you
dear joan
I pick up the pieces, but some scattered too far
you say they flew when I kicked them

I know you believed when I said it was over
you stood by me patiently waiting and broading
so deeply in love with every face that I’ve shown

(CHORUS)

once I forgive, twice I’m a fool, three times I wrapped my hands around your neck
while you’re sleeping, you’re quietly sleeping, sleeping and dreaming
dear joan
don’t walk out the doorway
because if you did
I believe I could honestly kill you

(CHORUS) x 2

From what I can understand, I think this song is about Cheating and how people shouldn't forgive no matter what the situation may be. If you love someone so much, it makes it even harder to accept, but if you forgive them they will keep walking all over you and finally it will start to take effect on you. Which that's what the last verse is referring to. It sort of took me for a loop, a nice song...and then BAM we're talking about killing the other. You won't be a fool the second time if you don't forgive the first.

Freaking different band, this is freaking tabitha's secret, not matchbox 20. You don't see people putting further seems forever songs on the dashboard page, people who put these lyrics up are stupid...

Gosh Phrenchorn.... what is your problem. I think everyone knows that it's a Tabitha's Secret song but Matchbox Twenty made up 3/5 of Tabitha's Secret when they existed. Chill out. I love this song. This is my favorite Matchbox Twenty song.

you dumb faggot, you are contradicting yourself, everyone knows that it is a tabitha's secret song, yet it is your favorite mb20 song... still different band, no matter how you look at it...

It's about being an emotionally abusive person. It's tough knowing that you're doing these things to hurt someone, but not being able to stop it. You just keep apologizing over and over, but it never changes anything. It's espescially hard when you both love each other a lot. It's a really cool song to me, very haunting, no matter who did it.

you can tell its not mb20 just by the music and as soon as it talks about having his hands around her neck and says "I believe I could honestly kill you" thats a big red flag saying "Hey this is not a mb20 song! ! !"

    My Opinion

I have to disagree with you kissfreak93 - I think the lyrics are highly recognisable as Rob's (I realise that he isn't the sole writer. I think we have established that there are significant differences between mb20 and tabitha's musically but I don't think I can say the same about the lyrics. Rob has quite a distinctive style - very powerful and very descriptive. His songs are full of raw emotion - Dear Joan is no exception

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
