I thought she was an angel
Beautiful and kind
I thought she was an angel
Till the day she ran away
And blew my mind

I tried to hold her
Keep her in my arms
She was so cold
And when she smiled I felt
My heart was torn apart

I thought we had a thing
Much deeper than the usual feeling
And after all I was too blind
To see our love deceasing

I thought she was my baby
Innocent but wise
I thought she was my baby
But I didn't see the sadness in her eyes

I couldn't stop her
Did I even try?
I'd send her letters if I had the chance
But there'll be no reply

General CommentHe thinks that he was the one that could change a girl. That he loved, but alas, He's not

General CommentTo me it sounds like he was involved in a relationship in which the girl was depressed and he tried to keep her holding on to life. This might be an extreme view though because it said she 'ran away' in the first stanza.

"I tried to hold her/keep her in my arms/she was so cold/and when she smiled I felt/my heart was torn apart" sounds like she passed away and he was heartbroken. "But I didn't see the sadness in her eyes." Also, "I'd send her letters if I had the chance/but there'll be no reply," possibly supports my idea.

    interesting song either way.

General CommentI think it's about a guy who read more and felt more in a relationship than his partner did. I agree with the previous posts she was depressed.

General CommentI've never thought of it this way until now, but I think MusikNote nailed it. It *sounds* like she left him unexpectedly, as in broke up. But between the sadness and the impossibility of any further communication with her, I think maybe this song is in the same vein as Emma [by Hot Chocolate, but known to me from the Sisters of Mercy version]
