This is one of my favorite songs. https://fnfgo.io
Pour shame all over us, harden into a crust (cement)
Forget the glamor and mumble a jackhammer (under your breath)
Hide your face in the curtains
Better unsaid, so close
And it rolls off the tongue, almost
The world expects the pose, perfectly natural (loosen up)
Smearing wet concrete and swearing you'll never be (caught)
At your weakest, etched in stone
And we're frozen here, peeking
Almost, sweet talk, caffeine
Make contact
Up to my neck
I confess in quicksand
But it's so easy for you
Yeah, there's always one thing
Do you have something to tell me?
Say something, anything
I'm warning you
I'm warning you
I'm fucking you
I'm warning you
Relax, it's just a phase
You'll grow out of it
Believe anything anyone ever tells you
It's not funny any more
It's thing you hate the most
The thing you hate the most
The thing you hate almost
Forget the glamor and mumble a jackhammer (under your breath)
Hide your face in the curtains
Better unsaid, so close
And it rolls off the tongue, almost
The world expects the pose, perfectly natural (loosen up)
Smearing wet concrete and swearing you'll never be (caught)
At your weakest, etched in stone
And we're frozen here, peeking
Almost, sweet talk, caffeine
Make contact
Up to my neck
I confess in quicksand
But it's so easy for you
Yeah, there's always one thing
Do you have something to tell me?
Say something, anything
I'm warning you
I'm warning you
I'm fucking you
I'm warning you
Relax, it's just a phase
You'll grow out of it
Believe anything anyone ever tells you
It's not funny any more
It's thing you hate the most
The thing you hate the most
The thing you hate almost

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
Blue
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
Like someone said before Mike was in a kind of experiment about lack of sleep, just abusing of caffeine, that's almost the whole lyrics. One night he went to a bar (or something like that) and just stared at the people who was in the place, heard their conversations like:
"But it's so easy for you" "Yeah, there's always one thing" "Do you have something to tell me?" "Say something" "Anything"
This explanation was on a interview.
A Caffeine addicts dream song.
The biggest mistake that any Faith No More fan can make is to demand that any of their songs be 'about' anything. Patton has said that he often chooses words based on the way they sound, not what they mean. The result is an enigmatic song like this one. It functions as an enigmatic pastiche of images, ideas, dialogue, and satire. If you want a band with clear 'meanings,' listen to a band like Linkin Park: every song is about how the guy's mom grounded him, he's trapped and confused, life sucks, etc. Faith No More is so much more subtle and playful, which is why they are the best band of all time, ever, period, end of argument.
danredding- u are 100% correct in ur comment ! faith no more is my favorite band of all time . also . i like all of there albums . even before the super intelligent genius mike patton joined the band . faith no more was one of his favorite bands before he joined and he use to watch them play out. my favorite albums are the last 3 after the real thing. i do but dont understand how these masterpiece albums were created but were never mainstrem and popular . especialy in the states. pepole are so narrow minded and if they dont like sumthing that isnt catchy or "NORMAL" they dont even give it a chance. but actually thats a good thing because it makes us that more open minded and creative as the music we are listening to.bands like linkin park are so cheesy fake and complete sellouts . but thats what your everyday numbnuts want to here. anyway no matter if a band tells you the reasoning behind a song or the meaning . who cares . its what it means to you or the essence the song gives you. maynard james keenan said it best . vocals are and can be just another insturment in the song itself. pepole try band look to deep into what a song means. hell kirk cobain use to hurry up and write lyrics on the way to the studio to actually record tracks.the main thing ive learned over the years is . its the music you still like 10-15 years later that is the real thing. no pun intended . lol . head-up to all you FNM fans u pepole know what real true good music is ! thank u , thank u very much
Couldn’t have said it better.
Because Mike Patton is the god of all insanity. If you think jackass is nuts, you haven't seen anything. Patton once pissed in an orange juice container he took from axl roses tour bus vending machine, sealed it back up and then returned it where he took it from. :D The guy shat on a public park bench and then left. If that doesn't explain the reason as to why, then I don't know.. but he's crazy.
I think this is the best song on Angel Dust.
I'm confused about why further interpretations are being offered if the meaning of the song has already been established by the band? It has already been mentioned several times above; Mike Patton was partaking in a sleep deprivation experiment and wrote this song, along with Land Of Sunshine. There is no deep meaning regarding masturbation, being gay, etc. It's a stream-of-consciousness song written while delirious from lack of sleep while being over-caffeinated. I'm all about people interpreting songs for themselves, but when the band tells you what it's about, it's time to defer to them.
"It's a stream-of-consciousness song written while delirious from lack of sleep while being over-caffeinated."<br /> <br /> thank you! that's the best way i've ever heard ANY song to be summed up. meanings like this is why i came on this site to begin with. well done.
@MattJ, the meaning of the song is more than just the context in which it was written. Sure, the band wants us to hear these lines as something written under sleep deprivation, but that doesn't necessarily mean the lines are meaningless. They're meant to evoke. For some they evoke gay storylines, and I can see why. For me these lyrics evoke addiction - not caffeine addiction, but any kind of shameful behavior that you do but hate yourself for doing. Caffeine and sleep deprivation may be nothing more than images that may evoke various interpretations in different listeners.
I need some more Coke, god damnit my mom has got some sainsburies crap bet it aint got half the caffeine coca cola has in it and oh yeah i forgot to mention Mike wrote this song when on a 3 day sleep depriviation experiment and also land of sunshine was as mike was watchin a load of late night self improvement programs writing an absurdly positive song
Love Mike's screams. "I'm fucking you'
i dun get this song anyone actually got an idea what its about
