Stumbling along looking at nothing
Because your eyes are always on your feet
If you ever looked up then you'd see the sun
and the morining you wonder why things are so bleak..?

CHORUS
Boring and old are the things you're told
about the outside world,
and just wearing black won't take care of that
Don't be stupid girl

Don't be stupid
Down on your knees trying to appease
Somebodys mixed up statement
Cause in not much time
Your beliefs that are lies
Will be left on the pavement
They'll be left by the way

I've been doing some thinking
About all your preaching
and I don't wanna know.
'Cause that's just conforming
And that is not what you wanna be

Chorus

Don't be stupid
Down on your knees trying to appease
Somebody's mixed up statement
Cause in not much time
Your beliefs that are lies
Will be left on the pavement
They'll be left by the way
Oh by the pavement
Oh don't be stupid girl
You're in your world
Don't dress in black
Wont take care of that
Don't be, be so stupid girl

This song rocks. It just does. It's about thinking for yourself and not taking any crap from anyone.

A nonconformist song. There's a message that says experience things for yourself, make your own decisions, and don't rely on the opinions of others to dictate your outlook on life. Don't be stupid, see things for yourself before forming an opinion on them. Hiding away won't change what's there, and what's commonly thought isn't a necessary truth, so leave it behind.

I think it's about a girl that used to be herself, but as she grew up she got sucked into being in one of the cliques she was surrounded by. Also, does the line "on your knees trying to appease somebody's mixed up statement" sound sexual to anyone else? Like, she was told she was frigid so she was "down on her knees", so to speak, to try and prove them wrong. So, it's just about peer pressure in general? I don't know, that's just always what it made me think of. Great song =]

I think a verse was left out...

"Walking and always talking But never listening, You just kick back.
How do you handle All the bullshit that gets thrown your way?"

I dunno, these lyrics are just weird...

I think it's actually saying the opposite of this. If you listen carefully it says "wearing black wont take care of that, don't be stupid girl". This is saying that being a non-conformist, dressing in black and so forth, will not solve a single thing. It is encouraging people to snap out of it.

I agree with Juzo. This song is saying that non-conformists are stupid. They conform to their own ridiculous non-conformist standards, focus entirely on being seen by others as a rebel, and accomplish nothing. I think this is one of the most intelligent songs ever written. Yay killing heidi

its about not letting what you label yourself dictate your life. e.g. goth, jock, princess ect. doesnt matter what you label yourself its still conforming to someones beliefs rather than your own.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
