End Of The Night Lyrics

Take the highway to the end of the night
End of the night, end of the night
Take a journey to the bright midnight
End of the night, end of the night
Realms of bliss, realms of light
Some are born to sweet delight
Some are born to sweet delight
Some are born to the endless night
End of the night, end of the night
End of the night, end of the night
Realms of bliss, realms of light
Some are born to sweet delight
Some are born to sweet delight
Some are born to the endless night

The lines "Some are born to sweet delight, Some are born to the endless night" are taken from William Blake's 'Auguries of Innocence'.

in my opinion, there is a clear duality of people...those who were born satisfied, and those who would have to work all of their lives chasing satisfaction. These people you could very easily clarify as rich (sweet delight) or poor (endless night), ignorant (realms of bliss) or enlightened (realms of light)...etc etc... when you notice the duality u get the meaning.

I like your interpretation, tt. I think you got it right.

underrated. i love this song. any doors song that isn't a hit or played on the radio is underrated.

That's so true. Not a lot of "bad" Doors songs, are there...?! ;p

I will agree i think it shows there are people who are born into happiness and others who are always striving to feel joy.

I think Morrison could never feel fully fulfilled inside. Morrison preferred the night, he preferred to feel moody and lost in his own emotions. He was a spiritual person, and he lived a life many would question. I believe that's why the Doors were such a fundamental rock group, they showed that dark side of music. They were way before their time; so many groups today don't even mirror the talent of the doors. For anyone looking to better understand Morrison or The Doors i would highly recommend reading "No one Here Gets Out Alive" or "Riders on the Storm".

This is probably my favourite Doors track. I played it to a class of young teenage Chinese students (studying English) and asked them to tell me the meaning of the song.

I was damn impressed with their answers. It's about someone who is the deep depression of the night who wants to be happy again by seeing the dawn etc.

This is my favorite Doors song as well. You ESL class came up with a nice interpretation. I don't really buy it, but that's what conjecture's for, right?? ;p It's common for the sun & light to symbolize "good" or happiness, or Life. And for the Night to represent Light's antithesis. But, for someone like me, and maybe Jim, I'm a night person. I prefer the soft night to the glare of day. I love it's mystery. I love how I can go unnoticed in the shadows if I want....

if you seen "dead man" with jhonny depp u can also see the shaman in the movie reciting those lyrics... amazing movie dark and deep with amazing neil young guitar..

That's because the lyrics of this song are taken from a poem by William Blake. The name of Johnny Depps character. And the poet that the Indian learned to love during his time in Europe. That is why he is helping Johnny Depp. He thinks he is the reincarnate of William Blake. He quotes the poem a couple of times. The poem is Auguries of Innocence. Morrison was a huge fan of Blake's. That's also where the name of the band came. From Blake, When the Doors of perception are opened you will see things as the truly are.

Some lucky people are born in the place and with the people they will spend their lives with. Others must search, rove and wander to find where they belong. Some come into success, happiness and so forth easily, others must fight and strive for it. Using diurnal vs. nocturnal metaphors here is powerful. Not everyone has an easy path. But sometimes the richest are the most difficult. For they take you to places few have been.

amazing song. i can picture jim getting stoned out of his mind, lost in this world, writing these words.

@maninthebox Or maybe he just sat down with one of the bandmembers and wrote it. "Stoned out of his mind" might not be exactly how they created these songs.

By the way, this song also references Louis Ferdinand Destouches' book "Journey To The End Of The Night" --- "a novel of savage, exultant misanthropy, full of cynical humour and the blackest pessimism in respect of humanity." (from wikipedia)
