Leaving Babylon Lyrics
leaving this Babylon
leaving this Babylon
will not be to long
will not be to long
say my people are starving
but your money's running
but your money's running
you ain't got nothin' to show
gonna' step right through the door
not gonna' come back no more
cuz a politition lied
my mama just did cry
and nothing ever gonna' change
my father just desides
her sisters just a line
and I ain't got nothing to claim
oh...
will I say
that, did it go away?
now did you leave today?
yeah...yeah...

can't believe i haven't commented on this song before. the last 2 minutes of this song are so fuckin dope and like a part of my soul. drumming to this song is so chill with the drums to this with that high pitched snare , and the guitar with its effects are incredible and trippy. i sort of feel like this is a song that so many 311 fans look past or even think sort of blows, but i just laugh to myself and i know that if i've just smoked a bunch of weed or done shrooms there probably isn't a 2 minutes of song i'd rather listen to than the end of this. sometimes i get pretty damn depressed about how life blows, but no matter how shitty i feel i can listen to some 311 and let the music take me to a different world

excellent cover...311 did such a great job with this song

i got to get myself into bad brains....they got some good tunes

everyone gives this song a bad rap. i think this is an awesome tune.

i'm going to be honest and say i have no clue what this song really means.. i'm trying to download the original by Bad Brains, but I really do like this song, it's reall chill but i just don't really know what it means..

i think in jamaican/ rastafarian culture the term "babylon" refers to government, or basically any 'establishment' of sorts that holds a lot of power (i.e. military, police). drawing from that i'd guess the song means getting away from a place (using the term loosely.. maybe even a state of mind) of oppression or negativity and just going someplace with better vibes. :)

oh and by the way i think the cover's awesome too. nick's jamaican accent is pretty good. ;)

yup. in my opinion a worthy cover of a reggae song. dub-tastic! they should try to write some orginal reggae.

Babylon is a land of iniquity I get the feeling from this song. Especially when it comes to greed.
People are starving in the metaphor that is Babylon, but others are making ridiculous amounts of money.
In particular I think 311 is talking about Hollywood in this song. They have sang much about how excessive Hollywood materialism disgusts them (i.e. borders) and they are just like yeah we're leaving Babylon.
