This song is great. I recently re-discovered it while playing some 311 songs at work. I build fiber-optic devices for a living, and I'm pretty sure this is the only song which mentions "fiber-optic connectors". The lyrics to this song, in general, are great! It talks about our use of technology, and questions our ability to use it. The song defines technology as a form of human evolution, because we continue our advancement as a species through technology. In response to Ignition; I believe that 311's use of the word exponential was appropriate in this context. In general, any logarithmic process can be expressed as an exponential process. More practically, the term 'exponential' is more common and better understood than the term 'logarithmic'. Therefore, the term exponential is more appropriate in the context of this song. In response to joshhaz: I would hazard a guess that whoever 'Igintion' is, he is more valuable to society than you are, and probably doesn't measure up to any of your profanities as well as you do.
The lyrics make total sense! This song is about technology and how man should not be afraid of it. He is saying that we as humans are capable of doing great things but many people dont stop to think that our imagination is very powerful. We are evoloving as a species at a fast pace because of all the advancements man has accomplished. First our dreams or goals must be thought of in imagination, then man will make it reality, with the use of technology. He says there are a lot of people that fear our advancements because we may not be able to take the consequences back. But that we should still continue to advance because, if it is thought of carefully, it can and will be used for the good of all humans.
yes as stated above this song makes total sense... basically what i feel hexum was saying is that human kind is limited only by our imagination and i truly believe that and if you dont someone has severly injured your perception of reality
When Hex talks about people wanting PT and wanting AU he's referring to platinum and gold which has value based in the element, but there is more value in technology advancement with the making of semiconductor microchips (silicon) and fiber optics

I seriously think that this is a great song. For those who don't see the point of this song try reading the lyrics and search deeper into the actual meaning. 311 did a great Job with this one. Humans have great potential to do anything they put their minds to. There is more value in technology than in valuables such as gold and platinum.
