"Today" as written by and William Patrick Corgan....
Today is the greatest
Day I've ever known
Can't live for tomorrow
Tomorrow's much too long
I'll burn my eyes out
Before I get out

I wanted more
Than life could ever grant me
Bored by the chore
Of saving face

Today is the greatest
Day I've ever known
Can't wait for tomorrow
I might not have that long
I'll tear my heart out
Before I get out

Pink ribbon scars
That never forget
I tried so hard
To cleanse these regrets
My angel wings
Were bruised and restrained
My belly stings

Today is
Today is
Today is
The greatest day

I want to turn you on
I want to turn you on
I want to turn you on
I want to turn you

Today is the greatest
Today is the greatest day
Today is the greatest day
That I have ever really known

Song MeaningThe second verse clearly means that the narrator has tried to kill himself unsuccessfully twice.

    Pink ribbon scars
    That never forget

    - Obviously the narrator has cut himself before trying to kill himself, but unsuccessfully so, and the scars serve to haunt him.

    I tried so hard
    To cleanse these regrets

-This makes more sense in the last line of the verse, but the narrator is expressing here that he's tried to get rid of the memories that haunt him (his scars of attempted suicide or self infliction).

    My angel wings
    Were bruised and restrained

-In this part he is saying that he didn't quite get his angel wings (you get angel wings when you go to heaven).

    My belly stings

-And this is what is supposed to tip you off: the narrator tried to kill himself by drinking bleach.

To make it clearer, he had tried to kill himself with a knife, failed, and that was haunting. He came *this* close to getting his wings but didn't. So this time he's downed a bunch of bleach, trying to "cleanse" his regrets, and thus why his belly stings.

I think this is the true picture that's painted in this song, this interpretation works so well with the lyrics.
