When love breaks up
When the dawn light wakes up
A new life is born
Somehow I have to make this final breakthrough
Now

I wake up
Feel just fine
Your face
Fills my mind
I get religion quick
'Cause you're looking divine
Honey, you're touching something; you're touching me
I'm under your thumb, under your spell, can't you see?

If I could only reach you
If I could make you smile
If I could only reach you
That would really be a breakthrough, oh yeah

Break through these barriers of pain
Break through to the sunshine from the rain
Make my feelings known towards you
Turn my heart inside and out for you now
Somehow I have to make this final breakthrough
Now, oh yeah

Your smile speaks books to me
I break up
With each and every one of your looks at me
Honey, you're starting something deep inside of me
Honey, you're sparking something this fire in me
I'm outta control
I want to rush headlong into this ecstasy

If I could only reach you
If I could make you smile
If I could only reach you
That would really be a breakthrough

If I could only reach you
If I could make you smile
If I could only reach you
That would really be a breakthrough
Oh yeah
Breakthrough, breakthrough

If I could only reach you
If I could make you smile
If I could only reach you
That would really be a breakthrough

If I could only reach you
If I could make you smile
If I could only reach you
That would really be a breakthrough

Breakthrough

I think it's about being in love with an acquaintance. Although it my hurt because you're not with them (you don't know if they like you back), it's a good thing just to be able to talk to them, make them smile. '...honey you're touching me...': just them touching your arm or whatever is like a surprising, wonderful thing. Each positive response is a little breakthrough. But the 'final breakthru' would be asking them out/telling them how you feel! Or, theres the possibilty that both people are friends and unaware of thier feelings towards each other and don't understand why they enjoy being together so much and the breakthru would be the realisation! Oh and the begginning bit suggests the narrator breaking up with someone and not really caring about it, because presumably they care so much more for the person mentioned throughout the rest of the song.

A year and a half after my brother passed away (1999), I got depressed. One night I had a vivid dream about my brother and he sang this song to me. At the time I didn't know the words, but I recognized the song. Next day I bought the cd and read the text: these are my brothers words telling me he wanted to reach me one more time, through my rain into the sunshine and make me smile again.... At that time I knew I had to face myself, and get better...... it worked.... Whenever I hear the song, I hear my brother talking to me. That's what it means to me.

The intro is a Freddie Mercury written "A New Life Is Born" which exists as a separate demo in a bit longer form on the bootleg market.

This song is shown through the eyes of a depress person that cant let his dead love go. However, he comes across another bueatiful girl that he wants to know. But the depression and sad thoughts of the other the girl holds him back and he waits reluctantly for that girl to come back someday. If he can breakthru his own dead love for a new one. SONG ROCKS!

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
