Spoon Lyrics
Don't turn off the heat
Can't find the spoon that we once had
The sugar cubes will melt no more
We belong as two together
Stop...I need a new beat
Can't find the spoon that we once had
The sugar cubes will melt no more
We belong as two together

I love this song it's so cool!!! Okay heres what I think, I think that the spoon is heroin and the sugar cubes are the white power , I dunno thats just what I first thought when I heard it! So yea!
i dont think this is right but you could easily see what your making reference to here. great definition. layne staley would be proud of these lyrics

I think it's about love using food as a metaphor, but your interpretation is very interesting.

I agree with you, dd59714. Cibo Matto is my favorite band and the often use food as a metphor for love. I believe this song is about a relationship on the rocks. When a relationship begins, everything seems to go exceedingly well... tiny quarrells dissolve like sugar in water. In this song, it takes much more work to "melt that sugar", in fact, the water must exceed a boilig temperature. The love that acted as a catalyst in the beginning is lost. It's as difficult for their relationship to continue as it is to dissolve sugar cubes in cold water without a spoon, but they still belong together.... (that last sentance was awkward but you get the idea)
Really interesting interpretation, I like it... I wonder if this song has anything to do with the song Sugar Water? Like maybe Sugar Water is about a dreamy, loving relationship, whereas this later look at the same relationship shows the cracks starting to appear.

wow.
not sure if I like listening to these poppy songs about food when they have such logical deep meanings...
it scare me.

metphors in lyrics are so interesting. i love this song, and the title of the EP says everything. i think you're so right, PandaCakes, and you have a good taste in music if you love this band :)

absinthe -- put a sugar cube on a perforated spoon, drip water onto the sugar cube so that it mixes into it to make it tolerable. a good metaphor if that were the intent.
