"Superman" as written by and John Ondrasik....
I can't stand to fly
I'm not that naive
I'm just out to find
The better part of me

I'm more than a bird
I'm more than a plane
More than some pretty face beside a train
It's not easy to be me

Wish that I could cry
Fall upon my knees
Find a way to lie
About a home I'll never see

It may sound absurd but don't be naive
Even Heroes have the right to bleed
I may be disturbed but won't you concede
Even Heroes have the right to dream
It's not easy to be me

Up, up and away, away from me
It's all right
You can all sleep sound tonight
I'm not crazy, or anything

I can't stand to fly
I'm not that naive
Men weren't meant to ride
With clouds between their knees

I'm only a man in a silly red sheet
Digging for kryptonite on this one way street
Only a man in a funny red sheet
Looking for special things inside of me

It's not easy to be me.

My InterpretationIt's about what it means to be a man. Everyone knows a "real man" is a bullet-proof hero. A real man is strong and dependable in the face of any challenge. A real man never cries or asks for help at any cost, even the ultimate cost.

The "silly red sheet" is a metaphor for the utter BS that so many men think society expects of them. I'll never know for certain, but this song makes me cry because I think the silly red sheet is exactly what killed my uncle.

General CommentThis song is talking about a man/woman who is looked up to and admired and has so many expectations to live up to, every one thinks that this person is so great, like Superman, when actually this person is just a normal person that wants to feel like a normal person and be able to feel normal.

General CommentThis song makes me cry every time i hear it. I can relate to what he's saying. This guy has so much pressure from everyone around him to be perfect. "Even heros have the right to bleed" Nobody can be perfect

General CommentI didn't see your points of view at first glace but what I thought it was talking about was more like eeryones own vision of what they think the outside world expects from them and also how we seem to have our own superman image of what we want to be like but we don't always believe that we are worthy of that image

General Commenti'd heard this song a few times before and loved it, and i finally figured it out when i saw Bandits. I like this oen because it's different from the millions of other songs about Superman. I'm listening to Eminem's "Superman" right now actually.

General CommentI love this song. It is so heart-wrenching and it tells such a great story. This person who we respect and look to to be strong and not be afraid really isnt who we make them out to be. We expect these people who we look up to for guidance and answers have feelings to, and these feelings arent alway good ones either

General CommentUm, Darkdavo....He's Superman. 95% of the time, everything IS on him. Anyway, I also like this song, and the way it seems to humanize one of our cultural Icons. Plus I'm a big fan of smallville which ads a little bias to my viewpoint on this song =P.
