"Soma" as written by William Patrick Corgan and James Yoshinobu Iha....
Nothing left to say
And all I've left to do
Is run away
From you
And she led me on, down
With secrets I can't keep

Close your eyes and sleep
Don't wait up for me
Hush now don't you speak
To me

Wrapped my hurt in you
And took my shelter in that pain
The opiate of blame
Is your broken heart, your heart

So now
I'm all by myself
As I've always felt
I'll betray my tears
To anyone caught in our ruse of fools

One last kiss for me...yeah
One last kiss good night

Didn't want to lose you once again
Didn't want to be your friend
Fulfilled a promise made of tin
And crawled back to you

I'm all by myself
As I've always felt
I'll betray myself
To anyone, lost, anyone but you

So let the sadness come again
On that you can depend on me, yeah
Until the bitter, bitter end of the world, yeah
When god sleeps in bliss

And I'm all by myself
As I've always felt
And I'll betray myself
To anyone

General CommentI think you're all off with this Brave New World junk. I remember interviews from back in the day where Billy stated that he doesn't think too hard about his titles, that he just does a six degrees of separation and chooses titles according to association or whatever sounds cool. just take the song as it is: an epic meditation on disengagement and the end of a relationship.

My InterpretationAnyone that has ever had their heart unmercifully ripped out, trampled on and left for dead needs no explanation for this song. It speaks for itself...

    Nothing left to say
And all I've left to do
    Is run away, from you

Didn't want to lose you once again
Didn't want to be your friend...

I hope it was worth it. Rot in hell...

General CommentUmm, I know that at the very end, like around 6:35, if you put it real loud, you can hear someone saying, "And you need to resist the devil so that he will flee". I found that out from this site: spfc.org/…

General CommentSupposedly Billy Corgan claims this song is based on the idea of a love relationship being like the drug opium. It slowly puts you to sleep, soothes you, and gives you an illusion of sureness and security.

General CommentThis song is great. I love the way the song builds up. I always listen to this before I go to sleep and it reminds me of the fall ( I don't know why?)

General CommentI love this song, nota s much for the lyrics as for the instrumental..it's so powerful, beautiful...
About the title...does "Soma" necessarly has to mean something concrete? Maybe it's like "Mayonaise", you know..

General CommentTo me, it's the end of a relationship and it doesn't seem to be amicable.

    -I'm all by myself
    -As I've always felt
    -I'll betray myself
-To anyone, lost, anyone but you

He finds himself back at square one, with the lonliness he's always felt. He is open to showing too much of himself and letting himself be hurt again. He would do this with anyone, except her.

He's definately done with her, and wants her to know it.

General CommentSong written by Billy Corgan and James Iha.
We don't really know what the title means but there are different possibilities :
    - Soma is a drug in the great book written by Aldous Huxley 'Brave New World'
    - Soma means body in greek
    - Soma is meant to be a paradise in some religions

Never mind, Soma is a jewel, one of the best song ever written by the SP. It rocks.
