Saw your face last night on the tube
Strong fine snake in a sucker's vacuum
15 clicks and it's time to say bye
15 trips and a love that won't die

Me and myself killed a world today
Me and myself got a world to save
Broadcast dead revolution don't pay
Strapped up freaks on the Lazarus plane

I can tell just by the climate, and I can tell just by the style
I was born and raised on Venus and I may be here a while
Cause every supersonic jerk off who plugs into the game
Is just like every subatomic genius who just invented pain

I will deny you
I will deny you baby
I will deny you
I will deny you baby
I will deny you
I will deny you baby
I will deny you
I will deny you baby
Yeah yeah, yeah, wow

Oh baby, I'm lazy
Oh baby, introduce me to God
Oh baby, I'm lady
Oh baby, set a place for the dog, for the dog

Yeah, Oh

Shut me off 'cause I go crazy with this planet in my hands
Shut me off 'cause I go crazy with this planet in my hands
Shut me off 'cause I go crazy with this planet in my hands
Shut me off 'cause I go crazy with this planet in my hands

I can tell just by the climate, and I can tell just by the style
I was born and raised on Venus and I may be here a while
Cause every supersonic jerk off who plugs into the game
Is just like every subatomic genius who just invented pain

I will deny you
I will deny you baby
I will deny you
I will deny you baby
I will deny you
I will deny you baby
I will deny you
I will deny you baby

Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, wow
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

    Song Meaning

It's basically a backlash against the grunge scene. The verses from what I can gather don't have anything to do with the overall meaning of the song, the clinch is the lines. "Cause every Supersonic Jerk-off who plugs into the game"

    • Referring to the amount of "negative" rock bands coming out of the woodwork after the success of "Nevermind". "Is just like every subatomic genius who just invented pain"
    • Basically talking about all the young guys in these bands moping about as if no-one else has ever been depressed and un-happy.

I'm not sure if it's a direct attack on, say Nirvana, or more an attack on the bands that began to appear in the wake of their success. Monster Magnet are very much products of the 60's and 70's, when Rock music was more about rebelling, taking drugs & having a good time. So understandably they'd be critical of the "mopey", "angsty" direction rock was heading.

Sorry folks, wrong on all counts. The song is about rock stars who are negative. It's basically a retort to all the rock lyrics about depression, sadness, etc. There's a lot of irony in it. "Every supersonic jerkoff who plugs into the game" and "every subatomic genius who just invented pain" refer to whiny musicians who hate themselves.

it's also a backlash against the grunge culture in which every song seems to be about sadness.

If you ask me, I've always thought this song was about a day spent playing a MUSH, MOO or MUD... some sort of 'puter game at least. :D

wow, i used to play MUDS all day and listen to mainly magnet songs. i have no special memories of this one in particular. but this is a work of genius. or at least a lot of drugs.

the part of "with a planet in my hands" is i believe him fighting other gods , or other people, somewhere in another space/world/dream? perhaps

    Song Meaning

Clearly you guys have never done psychedelics before. The song is a map to not losing your mind in a trip.

"Me and myself killed a world today - explaining the concept of no time

Me and myself got a world to save - explaining the anxiety

Broadcast dead revolution don't pay - 1 of 2 Strapped up freaks on the Lazarus plane - 2 of 2 - Explains fight or flight I can tell just by the climate, and I can tell just by the style - Familiarity with the trip

I was born and raised on Venus and I may be here a while - Explains the confusion

Cause every supersonic jerk off who plugs into the game - 1 of 2 Is just like every subatomic genius who just invented pain" - 2 of 2 - This is the cornerstone, hes explaining that everyone who trips (plugs into the game) is like every other person who never has. In other words, this world is fake.

"I will Deny you baby" - Explains denying your fear of what really is OR the denial of ones self, you will experience either of these.

"Oh baby, I'm lazy Oh baby, introduce me to God Oh baby, I'm lady Oh baby, set a place for the dog, for the dog" - This part is interesting and I think its personal. I think what he means is, he wants all the answers to life, but its too hard (im lazy). Ultimately I think it means its as pointless as setting a place (to eat at the table) with a dog... it doesnt matter.

"Shut me off 'cause I go crazy with this planet in my hands" - Finally, after your 16 hours of madness.. you want rest.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
