There's a fire forming, not too far from here
Along the east coast maybe, it resides in you, my dear
Worn out on our courtesy, we've made our curtain calls
Like vampire bats deprived of blood, into the New York city that we crawl

And you've got a funny way of showing off your bathroom surgery
You said you were just cooling down from plans of leaving me
There's something I should tell you, for we may not have much time
I've never met arms like yours

The stars at night are big and bright
Deep in your eyes, Miss Vincent
You told me once I made you smile
But we both know damn well I didn't
I'm not much of a jester, but I'd test poisoned food for you
Your majesty, you're royal blue
I'm royalty, my king of pain

There's a hard rain falling, flooding your attic, it's clear
Can't put out the fire that resides in you, my dear
There's something I should tell you, for we may not have much time
I've never seen scars like yours

The stars at night are big and bright
Deep in your eyes, Miss Vincent
You told me once I made you smile
But we both know damn well I didn't
I'm not much of a jester, but I'd test poisoned food for you
Your majesty, you're royal blue
I'm royalty, my king of pain

The stars at night are big and bright
Deep in your eyes, Miss Vincent
You told me once I made you smile
But we both know damn well I didn't
I'm not much of a jester, but I'd test poisoned food for you
Your majesty, you're royal blue
I'm royalty, my king of pain

matt, dan, and drummer guy never cease to amaze me... they totally rock out with this doubling up of the guitars technique, which is kinda interesting to me... but my favourite part: "I've never met arms like yours." maybe they had my friend and i in mind when they wrote this song, cos damn, it hits VERY close to home... even the "new york city that we crawl" reference... see, i'm a queen of pain myself (however, i don't show off my scars, and if i did, it wouldn't be in a funny way) but i never really realized the things i was inadvertantly doing to my poor friend or "my king" "I'm not much of a jester, but i'd test poisoned food for you" that's sadistic yet sweet at the same time, same ole' skiba ;P gotta love it

also, this is not a HWM cover, idiot. even if they did the split album together, doesnt mean that all the songs on the EP are HOT WATER's. they each put a few songs on the album to get attention of both of eachother band's fans

I know this is a song about a friend of Matt's, but there's a lot more too it. It's about vices and addiction. "Worn out all courtsy, we've made out curtain call." (Overdose). Bathroom surgeries" cutting to "cool down" - It realease opiates and endorphins to try and hell the wound so you get an rush"

-Ill test poison foods for you - I'll do the first hit, line etc so you're safe I die.

"can't put out the fire that resides in you my dear......I've never seen scars like yours" They're both obvious addicts.

"You told me once, I made you smile once, we both know damn well I didn't - get hot her hooked.

a lot of their songs are about being dopesick

peachy song, i like the beat. i've only heard about 7 songs by Alkaline Trio. but this one tops it all. "you told me once i made you smile but we both know damn well i didnt im not much of a jester but id test poisoned food for you" best part in the song i think.. but whos miss vincent?

vincent van gogh painted "The Starry Night" and he's calling the girl he's addressing Miss Vincent because the stars in her eyes are big and bright, as they are in the painting. How redundant was that? Hmm you should look at the painting; it's one of my favourites.

Hot Water Music sucks donkey nuts. Get a fucking throat surgery for christ's sake. How horrible of a voice can you get. And by the way, this isn't a HWM cover moron.

THIS SONG IS SO SO GOOD.. "but I'd test poisoned food for you" i really love that one part because back in the era of the virgin queen they all wanted to kill her, they poisoned her gowns, and food aswell so really this refers back to the whole royalty thing again which makes this song EVEN MORE GREAT.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
