There's something beating here inside my body and it's called a heart
You know how easy it is to tear it apart
If I lend it to you, will you keep it safe for me?
I'll lend it to you, will you treat it tenderly?
There's something beating here inside my body and it's called a heart

There's a sun shining in the sky
But that's not the reason why I'm feeling warm inside
The answer isn't classified, it's my heart
From the moment I started
I tried to be good about it
Yes, I've tried my best
And more or less, I spoke from my heart

There's a lot to be learned
And you learn when your heart gets burned

There's something beating here inside my body and it's called a heart
You know how easy it is to tear it apart
If I lend it to you, will you keep it safe for me?
I'll lend it to you, will you treat it tenderly?
There's something beating here inside my body and it's called a heart

Hearts can never be owned
Hearts only come on loan
If I want it back
I will take it back
I'll take my heart
But I will try my best
And more or less
I will speak from my heart
Yes, I will speak from my heart
Speak from my heart

There's a lot to be learned
And you learn when your heart gets burned

There's a lot to be learned
And you learn when your heart gets burned

There's a lot to be learned
And you learn when your heart gets burned

There's something beating here inside my body and it's called a heart
You know how easy it is to tear it apart
If I lend it to you, will you keep it safe for me?
I'll lend it to you, will you treat it tenderly?
There's something beating here inside my body and it's called a heart

You know how easy it is to tear it apart

This song is such a masterpiece, I can't even begin to start... When I listen to it, I see it as a negative song about relationship abuse by females in a partnership. I know its poppy as hell, but look at the title: Its called a Heart. That implies that whoever the narrator is speaking to, has NO IDEA what on earth this passion-center is! "You know how easy it is to tear it apart". Obviously the girl is no stranger to hurting men when they show their feelings towards her. The narrator was honest and "spoke from his heart" and yet he got hurt by his lover. Such a powerful and completely relatable tune. Maybe this is just my interpretation with my experiences as a bias, but I really found solace from the words to this song. If I ever met Martin Gore, I'd tell him how happy I am that he wrote a song that I can so greatly relate to. I absolutely adore womankind, but many do have the ability to hurt us men emotionally. = [ (This can just as easily happen in reverse. Men can also hurt women emotionally, I just found it the way I did because it was written by a male with a male singing)

Alan Wilder's less favourite song. It's a bit too synth-poppy for that period, between Some Great Reward and Black Celebration, way out of what they were doing, IMHO.

It's about being on guard to let yourself love again after having gotten your heart broken before.

"Zombie" is about the ethno-political conflict in Ireland. This is obvious if you know anything of the singer (Dolores O'Riordan)'s Irish heritage and understood the "1916" Easter Rising reference. "Another head hangs lowly Child is slowly taken And the violence caused such silence Who are we mistaken - Another mother's breaking Heart is taking over" Laments the Warrington bomb attacks in which two children were fatally injured on March 23rd, 1993. Twelve year old Tim Parry was taken off life support with permission from his mother after five days in the hospital, virtually braindead. "But you see it's not me It's not my family" References how people who are not directly involved with the violence feel about it. They are "zombies" without sympathy who refuse to take action while others suffer.
