Boy, you know you make me float
Boy, you really get me high (ooh)
I feel like I'm on dope
'Cause you, you serve me on a regular (you serve me on a regular)
Boy, we need to tie this rope
Before we drift any deeper (before we drift any deeper)
There now hold me close
Boy, let's take this overboard now

I want you to rock the boat (rock the boat)
Rock the boat, rock the boat, rock the boat (yeah)
Work it in the middle
Work the middle, work the middle, work the middle
Change positions for me (change positions)
New positions, new position, new position
Now stroke it, baby (stroke it for me)
Stroke it for me, stroke it for me, stroke it for me

Ooh, baby, I love your stroke
'Cause you, 'cause you get me where I'm going
('Cause you get me where I'm going, yeah)
And truly you'll get my vote
'Cause I believe
I believe you know just what you're doing now
Baby, now we can coast (let's coast, let's coast)
Let's don't get in a hurry (no, no)
That's too slow (hey, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Go ahead and put that thing in overdrive

I want you to rock the boat (rock the boat)
Rock the boat, rock the boat, rock the boat (hey)
Work it in the middle (work it, baby, work it, baby)
Work the middle, work the middle, work the middle
Change positions for me (change positions)
New position, new position, new position
Now stroke it, baby (stroke it for me)
Stroke it for me, stroke it for me, stroke it for me

I want you to rock the boat (rock the boat)
Rock the boat, rock the boat, rock the boat (hey)
Work it in the middle
Work the middle, work the middle, work the middle (hey, hey)
Change positions for me (change positions)
New position, new position, new position
Now stroke it, baby (stroke it for me)
Stroke it for me, stroke it for me, stroke it for me (yeah)

Stroke it for me
Hmm, stroke it, baby, stroke it, baby
Hmm, work it it, baby, work it, baby
Ooh, stroke it
There is something I want you to do for me

I want you to use yourself (hey)
Like you never ever used it before (never)
To explore my body (explore it, baby)
Until you reach the shore (yeah)
You'll be calling, calling for more (callin')

Rock the boat (rock the boat)
Rock the boat, rock the boat, rock the boat
Work it in the middle
Work the middle, work the middle, work the middle
(Work it, baby, work it, baby)
Change positions for me (change positions)
New position, new position, new position
Now stroke it, baby (stroke it for me)
Stroke it for me, stroke it for me, stroke it for me (baby)

I want you to rock the boat (rock the boat)
Rock the boat, rock the boat, rock the boat
Work it in the middle
Work the middle, work the middle, work the middle (work it, yeah)
Change positions for me (change positions)
New position, new position, new position (change)
Now stroke it, baby (stroke it for me)
Stroke it for me (yeah), stroke it for me, stroke it for me

Rock the boat (rock the boat)
Rock the boat, rock the boat, rock the boat
Work the middle, work the middle
Work the middle, work the middle
Change positions for me (change positions)
New position, new position, new position
Stroke it for me, stroke it for me
Stroke it for me, stroke it for me

Rock the boat (rock the boat)
Rock the boat, rock the boat, rock the boat

Hey! Guess What! I'm going to avoid the stupid wank and actually talk about what the song means! ;) Yes. The entire song is a playful metaphor for sex, but more specifically she wants her lover to try new things. It almost seems like her lover is not as experienced as she is (a virgin)? That's why she's guiding him and reassuring him that he's doing fine. The line about the rope (bondage play perhaps?) and use his body as he's never before is telling.

I'm not a big fan of Aaliyah cos she didn't do my kind of music. But what some of you are writing is really fucked. Just because I'd rather hear riffs than rapping doesn't mean I've got to hate her. I appreciate her music, it was good stuff. I was looking for these lyrics for a girl I know, she loves this song and if it makes her, like it makes millions of others, feel good.. then isn't that a good thing? What I don't understand is why some of you would look up this song just to let us know that you prefer your music to this and that you don't care she's dead. Do we care you don't care? I don't. But it bothers me that you have nothing better to do that shove your negative opinions down the throats of people who actually like Aaliyah.

So guys can make songs about sex, yet girls must pretend we don't even do it? That is screwed. Aaliyah RIP

This is a hot song by a sexy and smooth artist. To all those people who thinks the subject matter in this song makes Aaliyah "slutty", how do you know this wasn't a song about the song writers boyfriend or husband? Obviously one could listen to this song while making love or having a one-night stand. I've heard much more smutty content in other songs, including rock music, some of which was popular at the time as well. I think the artistic way of expressing sexuality song is refreshing and not perverted what-so-ever. It is empowering and very erotic to see a female be open about her sexuality, especially when it isn't explicit to the point of censorship.

This is a very sexual song, using various nautical terms as metaphors for sex ("I love your stroke," "Let's take this overboard"). It was popular on the "Quiet Storm" and "Late Night Love" R&B radio programs. The video was shot in the Bahamas, and after the shoot, Aaliyah and 8 others were killed when their plane crashed shortly after takeoff. She was just 22 years old

um, sweet jesus? people shouldn't talk about what they do not know. it's like men talking about how it feels to give birth. so don't talk about aaliyah, because you don't know her or her family or her history.

@Kahiara Actually I think the husband passed away, "She sang for you last night She heard you were calling" Many people say they have felt, heard, or seen their loved ones after they have passed. "Don't be scared now Close your eyes She holds guard tonight Go on forward no remorse Life will take it's course" This is said to the late husband by a third part (never named), who encourages him to pass on. Because life will eventually continue. The phrase "holds guard" refers to the ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/… ) which is a Christian ceremony held after someone dies. Now it is usually held right after the funeral, but in most celtiic countries the wake is held before the funeral. "She danced with you last night so you will remember All you have shared, a lifetime." This sentence feels as if the only thing it wants to convey is their history together, namely, husband and wife. For the rest it just refers back to the first verse.

Moyet later described how her song "Goodbye 70's" had been inspired by her disillusionment with how the late-1970s punk scene had turned out, saying, "'Goodbye 70's' is about punk and not caring how you were dressed, and then I discovered that so many of my friends that I'd thought it all really meant something to just saw it as another trend... That's what 'Goodbye 70's' was all about, about how sour the whole thing became."

The man has pseudo-friends who constantly criticize his actions. They moralize him, "teach" him and advise him to make a significant change in his life, because the way he is and what he does is not what they say it should be. They may find his life lame or immoral. They hold themselves up as role models. The man replies that he will make his own choices and decisions and he does not agree to unconditionally make himself under the influence of questionable quality advice. He justifies this by saying that there is always someone for whom he will be important, no matter what he does and no matter what he is. Although it is not said directly, I read it as meaning that he will always be important to himself in every way and he will always have his own support. "Everyone is different and maybe that's a good thing, but you exceeded that mark 1000 times" - I remember very well how sad the words I once heard (from my peers and it was in negative context) at school made me feel.
