I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
Could there be a familiar ring everytime I sing about
Cycle the tears everything in life no doubt I, I
Reiterate to my jaw is off-set,
But I'll say it again anyway,
What you give it what you get
Look at you now, look at you now,
you're put in your place, put in your place oh
all medicine, all medicine is
smacked in the face, smacked in the face again
Look at you now, look at you now,
you're put in your place, put in your place oh
all medicine, all medicine is
smacked in the face, smacked in the face again
So when the door comes swinging back around
and the taste of familiar medicine is abound
on your breath, breath, breath
Please don't come crawling back to me,
cuz you'll know what I'll say
brother let your knees bleed, please
Look at you now, look at you now,
you're put in your place, put in your place oh
all medicine, all medicine is
smacked in the face, smacked in the face again
Look at you now, look at you now,
you're put in your place, put in your place oh
all medicine, all medicine is
smacked in the face, smacked in the face again
Look at you now, look at you now,

“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Plastic Bag

Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.

While the obvious connections with suicide or alcoholism could be drawn easily, more subtly this song could be about someone who views the world through a negative lens constantly and how as much as the writer tries to show the beauty in the world, this person refuses to see it. It's one or another between the rope and the bottle. There is no good option for this person. They can't see it. Skiba sings it in a kind of exasperated way like He's tired of hearing this negative view constantly and just allowing that person to continue feeling the way they feel knowing he can't do anything about it. You can hear it when he says maybe you're a vampire.
im fairly sure the first verse lyrics are; "could there be a familiar ring, everytime i sing about, a cycle which is everything in life, no doubt i re-iterate til my jaw is offset, but i'll say it again anyway, what you give is what you get."
can someone fix it?
I think this song is about the frustration of a guy whose old girlfriend who has hurt him much in the past is trying to get back with him. So he is basically saying "Look at you now..without me...you;re smacked in the face..just like you smacked me in the face before..." As if His rejecting her is so familiar to when she rejected him. Its just vise-versa in the situation now
I agree, I finally found the lyrics to this song after i downloaded it. Great song. I shoulda known to buy the Spawn soundtrack. Brandon said he hates the movie Spawn I can really confuse myself
This is very different to the Incubus sound, I think it's an early one isn't it from the Spawn soundtrack... I love this song though, just because it shows just how good a vocalist Brandon is.
This is a beautiful song. Brandon's voice rocks on this. Its obvious what its about, u get what u give, what goes around comes around, all that. Like Circles.
I think this song is about a friend who was into drugs, hence "all medicine, all medicine" and when his friend came back begging for help he was "smacked in the face, smacked in the face again" and he was begging for forgiveness "brother let your knees bleed" this is one of Incubus' greatest songs, and I wasn't a big Spawn fan either
The song is different from the Incubus sound because it was remixed by DJ Greyboy for the Spawn Soundtrack. I've never heard the original, I don't know if a recording even exists.
im fairly sure this song is about alcohol or drugs (familiar medicine abound on your breath), and whoever the person maybe is getting back what they gave, and is now pitiful, because they are using drugs to escape their reality. however, since incubus in the old days (when they were actually cool) were completely drug fucked anyway (i mean, "fungus amongus"?), im not entirely convinced it isnt autobiographical.
lol I got the soundtrack just for this song..I LOVE incubus! One of my favorite bands by 311. well then..later... P.S. YALL ROCK! :)
come on! by now you should know that incubus they odn't write little sappy-love songs...welll except stellar...
