"Dai the Flu" as written by and Chino/cheng Moreno....
I always wondered what it takes
Fifteen stitches and a soft parody
To make my eyes be like deceit
Believe the sting proves heart to me

And now I know that you love me
Thank God that you love at all

Dislocated at the joint
Timing is everything in the bed
'Cause you'll sleep for hours to keep away
Then sink the teeth and bat your eyes

Now I know that you love me
Thank God that you love at all

What surprise I was right here going off and going on
What surprise I was right here going off and going on
What surprise I was right here going off and going on
What surprise I was right here going off and going on

'Cause at least I know
'Cause at least now I know, at least
Now I know that you love me
Thank God that you love at all
(What surprise I was right here going off, going on)

General CommentPerhaps the title is analagous about spreading the disease of mediocrity.

How she really doesn't care about him (probably doesn't know how).

I love Chino's attention to details, or perhaps it's just me as I found myself playing that "I'm sleeping, not really sleeping" game:

    "timing is everything in bed
'Cause you sleep for hours to keep away
then sink your teeth and bat your eyes"

Where she really doesn't care to be with him, and even when she is, she'll just sleep to escape. It's like the relationship has thinned so much, and has become just a string of give-and-take. That anymore he is just hoping to get something out of her (like sex), but she isn't even willing to give that.

She just bats her eyes to get her ways with him, and sinks her teeth (which like "showing claws" seems to be his way of showing the bitchiness of girls).

General Commentyeah this song is great love the groove in the verse where chino kind of talks/whispers it makes me feel so good. Its a big call but I think the song has something to do with seuxualy transmitted infections. Chino uses the term sting also in the song RX queen from white pony where he speaks of his girlfriend stinging him and him not minding meaning he does not mind if she infects him as long as shes with him. In dai the flu, also meaning you give the flu he states i beleive the sting proves heart to me meaning he believes that him still being with her whilst shes infected proves his genuine love for her. and thats why he is saying thank god that you love at all, i mean what girl wants to loveagain after having an sti and he does make her out to be really depressed and fucked up, she sleeps for hours to keep away. anyway im not too sure maybe im right off there but thats my interpretation. deftones are the most inspirational band in the worl they have revoloutionalised rock music.

General Commentnot_overly_tough I think you're close, but interpreting a bit one-dimensionally or too literally. Chino often refers to love in his songs as a duality between love the emotion and physical love (sex); and relates both metaphorically to an illness or being sick. I think it's safe to say that this song is doing the same thing.

General Comment^^^Uhhh, no, TheCyndicate, you're wrong.

This song is most definitely about someone he's in love with. Just fucking listen to the song. And it's not emo at all.

General CommentIt's very bass heavy, wondering if the Dai is merely in the title because it's Chi's tune?
The lyrics seem very much oriented towards a woman, "then sink your teeth and bat your eyes", which would remove anything of it being about drinking issues.

It is possible to call a song something entirely different to what it's about.

General Commentit means he is ponderinf just what it'll take (how much pain) before it is all turned away. that he is thankful she loves him because it is even a wonder that she is capable of loving anyone.
