I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:
"'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
Little girl's eyes open wide
Two ways to go but you can't decide
Follows all rules, has no say
Ends up in somebody else's play
Close your eyes cause you just don't need them anyway
Lose as directed, don't take no chance
Don't hinge your life upon circumstance
Mystery and misery go hand in hand
So you better follow the master plan
Don't use your head, lose as directed
Little boy sitting in his master's arms
Safe and protected from any harm
Wants to be a man, wants to branch out
But he's told not to ask questions or doubt
Close your mind, it's a book of instructions now
Lose as directed don't take no chance
Don't hinge your life upon circumstance
Mystery and misery go hand in hand
So you better follow the master plan
Don't use your head, lose as directed
Lose as directed
Let's go!
Monkey see, monkey do
Just another animal in the zoo
Got four wall security
Never even have to read a recipe
But it's not exactly what you would call free
Lose as directed, don't take no chance
Don't hinge your life upon circumstance
Mystery and misery go hand in hand
So you better follow the master plan
Don't use your head, lose as directed
Lose as directed
You lose!
Two ways to go but you can't decide
Follows all rules, has no say
Ends up in somebody else's play
Close your eyes cause you just don't need them anyway
Lose as directed, don't take no chance
Don't hinge your life upon circumstance
Mystery and misery go hand in hand

Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.

He apologizes for missing her calls in the second verse and promises to return them because for him, speaking to her is the most important thing. “Well, I get lost inside my head / In this chaos, you’re my calm / And I will find my feet again / ‘Cause еven the worst days of my life will always еnd / At midnight in your arms,” sings Ed Sheeran in the chorus, revelling in his good luck.
This song is very tounge-in-cheek. At first glance it seems to be telling us (the listener) to forget individual thoughts and do just live like everyone else ('Lose as Directed'). But there is a very definite sarcastic tone here, as it's saying that you wilkl become a prisoner (so to speak) if you give up and live like everyone else.
The most obvious example is the line, "Mystery and Misery go hand in hand'
Anyway...to mean it's saying that you should be YOU, not what the social world says you should be.
But that's just what I get from it.
Seeing as it is Bad Religion, of course I agree with Zorgon. I think, though, that it is more like what society tells you to act like (society is directing you) because of the constant push for the known and the similar path (you see this throughout your life, as a child, in the schooling system, at your job) and mediocrity. And, most people (me included) do as they are told because doing something different is scary (Mystery and Misery). But, when you do listen, you lose your potential and possibilities in life.
Catchy song, should have been on an album
