Dressed only in clothes
From her head to her toes
This is the way
The talking part goes

S-E-X-X-Y
More than enough
Around the clock with nobody else
S-E-X-X-Y

There she is
Standing on the bed
Cookie in one hand, wig on her head
S-E-X-X-Y

X because it's extra baby
Y because it's extra baby
Unnoticed by few
Very very few
And that includes you

Look inside your mind
Look inside your eye
Secret agent spy, come to see why
S-E-X-X-Y

One finger nail
Across your back
Baby's first gold tooth initials inscribed
S-E-X-X-Y

X because it's extra baby
Y because it's extra baby
You gotta understand
She wants to be your man
She's got another plan

The song is about sex. At first glance, you think of the adjective "sexy" with an extra x in the middle... but no, it's "sex" with and extra "x", and then an extra "y" at the end. (Perhaps as a reference to the XY chromosome... more likely just because "it's extra, baby!")

This is another song where they are not taking themselves too seriously. There's a talking part at the beginning, because a lot of great songs about sex start with talking (Barry White would be lost without that device). By having him just say "this is the way the talking part goes", he's basically saying "it doesn't matter what I say here... I'm just supposed to talk."

As for the "she want's to be your man" line, the mind boggles. That's just downright kinky.

You're going the wrong way with it. It's about someone born with a rare birth defect in which the child has both an x and y chromosone from the male as well as the x chromosone from the female thus making it x-x-y. This gives the child both male and female charectoristics and makes the rest of the song make sence.

I always thought it said "She wants to be A man." That gives it a whole other meaning. If she wants to be A man, than maybe the hermaphrodite thing works out. But I think it is just the Johns spin on an otherwise kinky song.

    This song is hilarious.

Definitely about a transvestite, or maybe just a secret agent in disguise, but one with an extra x chromosome. (oh, it happens)

"Around the clock, with nobody else" just seems to clarify that this xxy thing is constant and individual: the xxy refers to a single person, not a merging of two people.

See, the funniest part about the problem is the "you" in the song doesn't know "she" isn't a woman. And the saddest part?

"Unnoticed by few VERY VERY FEW And that includes you"

It's pretty OBVIOUS she has male characteristics, but for some reason, "you" haven't caught on. Seems like you even get as far as fingernails on your back and still don't know.

    Absolutely hilarious.

    Jamie Lee Curtis.

*love the Bond-ish feel of the little horn part toward the beginning, by the way

I dont think this song means anything at all. Honestly, I think they just wanted to make something that sounded like a makeout song, but if you listened really closely to it, you'd get a much stranger reaction. Kinda like, "What the crap!? What in the name of God is THAT supposed to mean!?"

I'm fairly sure it is she wants to be a man.

And I'm fairly sure the song is about androgeny. Or having 2X and 1Y chromosomes. Great tune though.

For other androgeny tunes, check out "Androgenous" by the Replacements!

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.
