Tragedies Lyrics

Harold defeated at Hastings
Richard at Bosworth field
Edward the Fifth defeated at Stoke
Their brave hopes savagely killed

These tragedies of England
That surely were so unjust
Tragedies of English history
Like a sword that turns to rust

Henry Tudor as a King
Then his son Henry numbered eight
The destruction of the monasteries
That tyrant did desecrate

These tragedies of England
That surely were so unjust
Tragedies of English history
Like a sword that turns to rust

Edward the Fifth given a false name
It was a Tudor a lie
Perkin Warbeck another false name
These things I now realise

Harold defeated at Hastings
Richard at Bosworth field
Edward the Fifth defeated at Stoke
Their brave hopes savagely killed

These tragedies of England
That surely were so unjust
Tragedies of English history
Like a sword that turns to rust

These tragedies of England
That surely were so unjust
Tragedies of English history
Like a sword that turns to rust
Like a sword that turns to rust
And then it turns to dust

I have always felt that it was a shame that Harold was defeated at the battle of Hastings in 1066 and Richard III was defeated at the battle of Bosworth. How the course of history can change quite dramatically in one day.
