Then Maybe Then

I’m hanging on a thread, dangling in the wind, spinning pathetic little pirouettes
I’m down in the sad part of town where the air smells like cat piss and cigarettes
The snow was all recently melted so everything’s dark gray and glistening wet
Out by the shed where I saw the pig’s head I found you but you weren’t declared missing yet
I want to go back to the kinder days
When ladybugs poured from your eyes
And walls weren’t just targets for trebuchets

I went to the building with worms in the ceiling, and I pulled myself up to the eighth floor
The hallways were filled with invisible cobwebs and the sound of babies being born
