I Don't Live Here Anymore Lyrics
A creature void of form
Been so afraid of everything
I need a chance to be reborn
I never wanted anything
That someone had to give
I don't live here anymore
I went along in wheel
You're always on my mind
I know it ain't like I remember
I guess my memories run wild
Like when we went to see Bob Dylan
We danced to Desolation Row
But I don't live here anymore
But I got no place to go
I'm gonna walk through every doorway, I can't stop
I need some time, I need control, I need your love
I wanna find out everything I need to know
I'm gonna say everything that there is to say
Although you've taken everything I need away
I'm gonna make it to the place I need to go
We're all just walkin' through this darkness on our own
My memories like waves
Is life just dying in slow motion
Or getting stronger everyday
I never took our love for granted
You never left me wanting more
But you never recognise me babe
I don't live here anymore
I'm gonna walk through every doorway, I can't stop
I need some time, I need control, I need your love
I wanna find out everything I need to know
I'm gonna say everything that I need to say
Although you've taken everything I need away
I'm gonna take you to the place I need to go
We're all just walkin' through this darkness on our own
Beating like a heart
I'm gonna walk through every doorway, I can't stop
I need some time, I need control, I need your love
I wanna find out everything I need to know
I'm gonna say everything that I need to say
Although you've taken everything I need away
I'm gonna take you to the place I need to go
We're all just walkin' through this darkness on our own
We're all just walkin' through this darkness on our own
We're all just walkin' through this darkness on our own
We're all just walkin' through this darkness on our own

I'm the first to comment, so be kind. Understanding art requires many people and I'm the first to dip my toe.
The melody and guitar at the onset is unmistakably a call back to the Eagles, "Boys of Summer". In the Eagles version, our hero, Don Henley, is late to the beach. It's fall and his love is gone leaving a memory. He is a boy of summer, he doesn't live there anymore.
The song has a larger reach. Seeing Bob Dylan is a memory. And.." Time surrounds me like an ocean My memories like waves Is life just dying in slow motion Or getting stronger every day?" There's a confusion about time.
He's harking back to a time where there was a multitude writing and singing about how he's feeling. But it's gone. "I don't live here anymore".
He's singing about a relationship's death but it cannot be understood outside the death of rock and roll.

The last line of the first verse, "I went along with you" here is actually not the lyric. This line is mumble, during recording he messed up the line but they left it in the song.\n\nSecondly, not once but twice is there a reference to Bob Dylan in this song. Obviously when he is mentioned by name, when they danced to Desolation Row.\n\nBut also, the second line is from a famous Dylan song:\n\n\'Twas in another lifetime, one of toil and blood\nWhen blackness was a virtue the road was full of mud\nI came in from the wilderness, a creature void of form\nCome in, she said\nI\'ll give ya shelter from the storm\n\nMaybe this will help someone!

This song for me, is very meaningful it got me through a break up. To me this song is about days gone by spent went someone you love(d) and now laying in bed thinking back on those days and rehashing memories, but knowing that you (and the person) have moved on and going your separate ways.
