Imagine if we all shared a secret
Maybe then we could connect in
That space where we keep it
If you and I bleed and it's the same blood
Would I still need a reason
To believe in your love?
I'm trying to stay ahead
Of all the developments
Got to acknowledge the devil in
A room full of elephants
And now I'm lookin' for an easy escape
Like, open the window
I'm 'bout to leap to my faith
For real, I feel depleted
An ocean full of weeds, emotional fatigue
And maybe if I had a bag of money
I could be the crash test dummy
Quietly standin' for somethin'
I would love to get as fly as them
But I fell overboard, now I'm trying to swim
I'm still learnin' but the
Water is burnin'
And the world keeps turnin'
Like it's not concerned, and

I can't believe I used to love you
You don't believe I used to love you
But who you gonna run to?
What happened to the people
That you once knew i'm like, hold up
You lookin' at me like I'm supposed
To know what to do
But when I see you come around
All I think about now is how
I don't fuck with you

And even if I had a way to say
To you how much I miss your kiss
And even on a perfect day
I behave like I'm nervous of the risk
And even when I'm confident the
Consequence'll cost another wish
And even when it's obvious we're probably
Just lost in the abyss

I'm trying to breath my way through it
Sink into the waves, let 'em move me
Stay fluid so many voices and inflections
Multiple choices and different directions
And even if I had the opportunity
I don't qualify to speak on
Behalf of the community
And I don't even know who
That would be anymore
I lost track of the tracks
I stopped keepin' the score
Or maybe I've been puttin' up my own walls
I don't return your phone calls
Got me floatin' and bobbin'
On top this pond full of problems we bought
From these dishonest spokesmen
I kinda hope we turn it all into ash
I don't wanna have to adapt to the aftermath
The tolerance is as powerful as the pain
You'd probably never know my name if
You've never heard me complain

I can't believe I used to love you
You don't believe I used to love you
But who you gonna run to?
What happened to the people
That you once knew i'm like, hold up
You lookin' at me like I'm supposed
To know what to do
But when I see you come around
All I think about now is how
I don't fuck with you

And even if I had a way to say
To you how much I miss your kiss
And even on a perfect day
I behave like I'm nervous of the risk
And even when I'm confident the
Consequence'll cost another wish
And even when it's obvious we're probably
Just lost in the abyss

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
