I don't normally do this kinda mess, but I'm gonna give it a shawt

She was purty
She was hawt
Bell bottom jeans
And halter top
Hitchin' a ride by the road
Nothin' looked finer
She was studying philosophy
At the college down the road
And I said "Baby is that your major, or your minor?"
She said "You got any spare change?"
And I said "Hell no, get a job!
I sing country songs for a livin'
And I don't like that hippie mess - but I like the way you dress
What kinda payment for this ride are you givin'?"

Huh?
Hey little hippie girl
How 'bout some free love, baby?
I ain't takin' no drugs
But I'll sure take some'a hippie girls free love

That's right

She started talkin' about Plato, Socrates, and ol' Van Gogh
And how she loves wise man's that made her think
And she offered me some wine from a little leather pouch
I said "Hell no, party liquors all I drink."
She said "Do you want to turn on?"
I said "Turn on what? The radio? The wipers? Or the air conditioning?"
She said "Drive out into the woods, I've got some herb, and man, it's good."
And I could tell that she was propositionin'

Yeah Yeah
Hey little hippie girl
How 'bout some free love, baby?
I ain't takin' no drugs
But I'll sure take some'a hippie girls free love

She lit a cigarette
It smelled like burning leaves
I coughed my guts out
Parked underneath the trees

"Hey hey! Put that damn thing out, baby. Let's go!"

I heard the Star Spangled Banner played like never before
Some kind of fuzzy, distorted guitar sound
Then she done a hippie dance on the hood of my Cadillac
While I got sick and crawled around on the ground
She took a headband from her hair and then she lassoed me
She pulled me close
She felt soft and warm
And she said "It's getting late. It's almost curfew time. Would you mind giving me a ride back to my dorm?"

"What the hell, Little hippie girl?!"
How 'bout some free love, baby?
I ain't takin' no drugs
But I'll sure take some'a hippie girls free love

That's right

I ain't takin' no drugs
But I'll sure take some'a hippie girls free love

Think about it

You got a boyfriend baby?
He got long hair?
Which dorm does he live in?
What's his name?
Huh? Sunshine?

Yeah!

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
