Uninvited Guest

Many see this song as someone who broke up with their partner and is tormented by some memories of them being together. I interpret as the personification of depression.

The first part is the victim who thought they had overcame the mental illness that is depression. They thought that there were no remnants of the illness that could continue to trouble them.( "Thought I was over you. Thought it was over it.") The victim further explains that they tried fighting off the depression in order to move on. (Thought I evicted you from my heart. Kicked you out of my mind.) The victim then realized that even though they tried, the depression is still there and "just won't go away."

The chorus personifies depression as the "Uninvited Guest" - that even though despite their attempts to rid the illness, it still stays there and continues to affect them and hurt them. It shows no chance of leaving their mind anytime soon.

"Still see you everywhere. You're still in every room." - The victim details that depression follows them everywhere, and no matter where they are at, the depression still exists, and there is no place that doesn't remind the victim about the disease. The victim expresses the difficulty of progressing in life because of how painful the depression really is and how they are sick of hurting all the time.

"Seems you're the only ghost I just can't chase away" - Saying that the depression is still alive, and the victim cannot drive the demons that haunt them. The victim speaks out saying the depression continuously looms in their brain so much so that it is relative to every thought - they cannot escape the depressive thoughts and wishes that it will finally go away. The victim adamantly hates the depression that they have and wants it out of their head. To stop the torment, the hate, and the pain.

To me, it sounds like a sickness (or the memory/remembrance of a sickness that won\'t go away).\n\nI\'ve never heard this song before in my life, but it\'s got recommended to me when I was listening to \'the sound of silence\' today. \n\nbut personally, for me, it\'s a remembrance of cancer.\nI got diagnosed with a certain type of cancer about 5 years ago.\nEven though I\'m considered clean, the fear of a certain return and the scar it left (physical and emotional) feels like an uninvited guest which I can\'t seem to get rid of.

I'm in love with someone and I couldn't tell her for almost 4 years. Last year I tried to hate the person I love cause the only thing that I was feeling was sadness as Rammstein says (Doch was nicht lieben kann, muss Hassan) But what can not love must hate and I tried but when I saw her all my feelings were back and the song automatically played in my mind. She is my cousin and I see her for almost a month.
