In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
I'm laid out, clown for you
Entertaining, absurd you
And of what's left now, my love too
See them clap and dance to my tune
Blowing up like a red giant
It's tempting us now
And I'm coming to burn this down
And I'm high as hell
All my children
Sing it again and again
'Cause of I lie and I lie
If you're winning, I'm over, I'm in
My angel stays up here
Dying with your own fears
Misdirection, I'm so near
Simple sly of hand, you're not clear
Blowing up like a red giant
It's tempting us now
And I'm coming to burn this down
And I'm high as hell
All my children
Sing it again and again
'Cause of lying I lied
If you're winning, I'm over, I'm in
Too late now, show's over
Real life is much closer
Take or make or both, you wonder
Why I look the same, only bolder?
Blowing up like a red giant
It's tempting us now
And I'm coming to burn this down
And I'm high as hell
All my children
Sing it again and again
'Cause of lying I lied
If you're winning, I'm over, I'm in
All my children
Sing it again and again
'Cause of lying I lied
If you're winning, I'm over, I'm in

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
Holiday

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
Magical

How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
I just read a review where the writer called this an"Anti Trump anthem"....I don't know if that's his interpretation but AIC has never, that I know of made blatant political songs.. most likely it has several layers of subjective meaning. To me it's referencing drugs, religion, fame, all things people worship until they live it or live through it. I know Jerry is Athiest, this song gives me Devil Put Dinasaurs Here vibes, but, just my interpretation.
@DoubleD777 Sounds like a lazy reviewer; a reviewer with a hammer and everything looks like a nail; or a reviewer who is looking to find that.

I suppose the song could be about a traveling preacher. That would tie it back to the last album (it could be a traveling con-man or shady circus)

But yeah, I think Alice In Chains tends to take an experience(s) or feeling(s) and generalize it. I can't imagine they would go the other way and take a generalizeable and trap it in a specific's cage.

I didn't get the impression that Jerry was specifically atheist. The last album indicates he's a skeptic of religion, but I have a feeling he believes in something bigger than himself. Not saying that is capital G God.I could definitely be wrong though. I'm not basing that on anything specific.

@nutshell02 I saw in an interview a long time ago he said he was Athiest but who knows, lyri
Lyrically it sounds pretty Nihilistic,in general not just the song
