"Magic City" as written by and James Ellis Ford Damon Albarn....
I'm on the high ridge looking down
While we're evolving, I get old
If I get back then I'll be grateful
Look there's a billboard on the moon

Let me take you this far
This crossing isn't much to me
There's lightning in the storm clouds
And I'll send you there to stay

You got me lost in Magic City
You got me questioning it all
I hope that I make it home by Wednesday
And this Magic City lets me go

Magic City
Magic City
Magic City
Magic City

You put me up here in the penthouse
And painted me in red, white and blue
I filled the canyons with my ego
Look there's a billboard on the moon

You got me lost in Magic City
You got me questioning it all
I hope that I make it home by Wednesday
And this Magic City lets me go

My InterpretationThis song sounds a lot like a big party. “Magic city”, a city has a magical feel to it, like the emerald city from the wizard of Oz (thinkin NY, LA, Hollywood, etc.) im gonna jump around on lyrics, bear with me. I wont pore over every lyric either, because i cant interperet everything.

“You put me up here in the penthouse”
Penthouse apartments are the top of the tower, best and biggest apartment at the top of a building. Its like a house on top of a skyscraper.

“painted me red white in blue” im definitely assuming this is in America. It just makes sense to me, i guess. I think he was hailed by the people and given the best treatment here.

“Let me take you this far
This crossing isn’t much to me”
He’s showing someone around, probably the same person mentioned later on

“There’s lightning in the storm clouds
And I’ll send you them this day”
Actual lyrics. Do what you want with that

“I’m on the high ridge looking down
While we’re evolving in it all“
Also actual lyrics. Hes talking about everything constantly changing.

“You’ve got me lost in magic city
You’ve got me questioning it all”
He might be in awe of everything there. Maybe he wants to know more. Or he might be lost, and mistrusting the city. I like this ambiguity, so im not choosing either

“I hope I make it home by Wednesday
And this magic city lets me go”
He doesnt want to be here too long, good or bad. He might like it, but he wants to leave at some point.
