Emily, what did you say when he said, "Follow me"?
What would you give to live your tragedy?
There is no price he needn't pay.
You give yourself away.

(Oh)
She said, "No one's ever sent me flowers"..
Oh (Oh)
..as the tears filled her eyes. With the tears, she denied them.
Oh (Oh)
She said, "No one's ever sent me flowers."
Oh (Oh)
"You'll be the first I leave because I'm always the first to love."

Emily, what did you do to become part of me?
I'd do anything to be your tragedy.
If only my thoughts could bring you to break,
You'd give yourself to me.

I'm always the first to love.
I'm always the first to love.
I'm always the first to love.
I'm always the first to love.

(Oh)
She said, "No one's ever sent me flowers"..
Oh (Oh)
..as the tears filled her eyes. Like the world, she denied me.
Oh (Oh)
She said, "No one's ever sent me flowers."
Oh (Oh)
"You'll be the first I leave because I'm always the first to love."

    My Interpretation

Why does this sound like a song where a man (Davey) is in love with someone who is keeps going back to a partner who doesn't treat them right? Hence the lyrics:

"There is no price he needn't pay. You give yourself away."

"No one's ever sent me flowers"..

"You'll be the first I leave because I'm always the first to love."

I feel like the narrator is trying to be what she wants, what she goes for but the woman denies him because she has given up on being treated right either because she feels she doesn't deserve the narrator's love or she thinks that the narrator is only being nice and deserves a better lover than her.

I get the impression that the narrator is confused by these feelings and the woman's behavior.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
