Cut through the fetters reach the end
Only to fight yourself again
Who would believe that now you're done
You carried the weight of everyone
After all the time we spent
Rewriting the rules that now we bend
The whole damn thing has turned to dust
You left alone, defeated us

Why did you head out?
Did you lack the love?
Hide from our eyes now
The reflection of

Once fell behind to carry me
You know it was never meant to be
Bled for the right to see it through
Now is the time to carry you
Why were we afraid to go
We asked for the truth and now we know
The whole damn thing has turned to dust
The ashes you left to bury us

Why did you head out?
Did you lack the love?
Hide from our eyes now
The reflection of

Why did you head out?
Did you lack the love?
Hide from our eyes now
The reflection of

Why did you head out?
Did you lack the love?
Hide from our eyes now
The reflection of

    Song Meaning
This song I fell in love with it after it was released and easily connected to it. To me, it's about losing someone you were in a relationship with and wondering why they ever left you

    My Interpretation
Judging mainly from the chorus, it seems to me that it's about sudden abandonment - not necessarily by a partner, but by anyone you knew who acted as a cornerstone in your life.

    Song Fact
Tremonti said the following in an interview: "Dust, the title track is my favorite song on the album. It's a song about a friend losing confidence in you and kind of walking away, and you being kind of heart broken about it. It's one of the most emotional songs on the record, and probably like I said my favorite, probably my favorite solo on there as well." youtube.com/…

    My Interpretation
I know my interpretation will sound a bit cliche, but I think the lyrics refer to Jesus, his suffering and the lost faith of humanity. The sentences "You carried the weight of everyone" and "Bled for the right to see it through" allude to the role of Jesus as the savior of the world, according to Christian gospels. "Rewriting the rules that now we bend" and "We asked for the truth and now we know" might refer to the New Testament, and humanity's inability to live according to those principles. "You left alone, defeated us", "Why did you head out? Hide from our eyes now" talk about Christ's ascension and our inability to perceive him in this world. I am not an overly religious person, but I instantly associated the lyrics with this topic.
