The Numbers Lyrics
The touch is like a breeze
It shines its understanding
See the moon smiling
Ready to receive
And we're not at the mercy
Of your chimeras and spells
Your chimeras and spells
Mmhm
To her we do return
The future is inside us
It's not somewhere else
It's not somewhere else
It's not somewhere else
One day at a time
People have this power
The numbers don't decide
Your system is a lie
A river running dry
The wings of butterflies
And you may pour us away like soup
Like we're pretty broken flowers
We'll take back what is ours
Take back what is ours

That last stanza is so unbelieveably powerful. An absolute call to arms, for people to start caring before this world is irreversibly broken. And seeing the song live only amplifies it.

numbers can be computer coding. perhaps political votes. clocks ticking away and our lives at this point unconsciously revolving around the concept of minutes, hours, and days. listening to this and reading the lyrics, i thought of The Matrix. the lines of scrolling numbers, especially the closing scene. seeing the numbers for what they are and not being bound by them.

It's about the destruction of the planet. Climate change, nuclear winter, etc. And it's up to us to stop it. We may be too late.

I love this song. It's like they've broken..
They've been warning us for so long with their metaphorical nonsense about the impending doom of post modern society and our impact on the planet. But no-one takes any notice, they just carry on as normal.
But now they've just sat down.. with a calm head and decided to just say it how it is.. the song is raw.. acoustic... symphonic.
"Holds us like a phantom" - the invisible shackles of modern society.
"Open on all channels, ready to receive"
It highlights the current awakening that's happening among the people, were ready for something new. We want to receive the wisdom of the ages and rise against the nonsense.. "The numbers" if you will. (Debt slavery, time, capitalist progression, profit)
"We're not at the mercy of your shimmers and spells" - the illusion is beginning to fade. We're realising that media is a massive distraction.
"We are of the earth, to her we shall return" "The future is inside us... it's not somewhere else"
We must rediscover out respect for nature and begin taking responsibility for our actions. We can't keep consuming.. waiting for someone else to solve our problems.. we must take back control and realise that we have the power to make that change.
The final verse is so literal.. it made me cry. I can't believe how direct it is.. they're at they're wits end.
"One day at a time
We call upon the people People have this power The numbers don't decide Your system is a lie The river running dry The wings of a butterfly And you may pour us away like soup Like we're pretty broken flowers We'll take back what is ours Take back what is ours
One day at a time"
This song embodies every realisation I've had about society since I was 15 years old, I'm now 25 and in that time I've seen so many people begin to realise.
And I love how it states "one day at a time".. it's not going to happen overnight, it's going to take years of patience and perseverance.
This song could not have come at a better time because i sort of gave up trying to explain this stuff to people.. but it's like a little boost.. Like c'mon.. don't give up.
We can make the change, just don't falter from the point!

i think of it as the top 100 pop boards and things of that nature. The numbers say "firework" if the best song but its really not, and only people can change the fucked up music system
