The Bourne Identity Lyrics
This song is an exploration of the inner doubts and criticisms one has about themselves that they often mask on the outside through bravado or a false sense of confidence and charisma. Alex is coming face to face with that fact that his insecurities are ruining his relationship and have likely previous relationships he's had in the past. These feelings are so strong, distinct, and opposite to he normally is(and who people see him as) that it's as if a separate individual lives within him. He gives hint that the persona he puts for to others isn't who he is. In fact, the self conscious individual is more indicative of his true self.
Lines like "I caught you talking to the real me. Can't tell you how unhappy that shit makes me" show how uncomfortable he is opening up. His true self is getting progressively stronger and becoming more apparent to those around him as the facade gets chipped away hence "Glass bottomed ego. Still afloat, but can't you see the crack appearing in the base". The next verse portrays his desire for a true sense of confidence and how difficult it is to attain. "And you've got yourself as a backseat driver" back seat drivers are those who nag and complain in the driver's ear, if he's saying that he is his own backseat driver he means that he is always tearing himself down and scolding himself for mistakes he makes and this contributes to his negative self image.

With as much as Alexa Chung is obsessed with the Jason Bourne series I can't imagine this is a coincidence. There were rumors that they were back together before his breakup with Arielle Vandenberg and before Taylor Bagley ("the mystery man has been unmasked" -- Alexa all of a sudden saying in interviews she was dating someone full stop). I think this is when he starts to see someone, ("talking to the real me" -- same first name) Alexander Skarsgard creeping in and decides to say goodbye forever.
