I told her that I loved her, was not sure if she heard
The roof was pretty windy and she didn't say a word
Party dyin' downstairs, had nothing left to do
Just me, her, and the moon

I said, "You're on fire, babe"
Then down came the lightning on me
Love can be frightening for sure

All I know at the end of the day
Is you want what you want and you say what you say
And you follow your heart even though it'll break
Sometimes
All I know at the end of the day
Is you love who you love, there ain't no other way
If there's something I learned from a million mistakes
You're the one that I want at the end of the day
At the end of the day
You're the one that I want at the end of the day

She said the night was over, I said, "It's forever"
Twenty minutes later, wound up in the hospital
The priest thinks it's the devil, my mom thinks it's the flu
But girl, it's only you

I said, "You're on fire, babe"
Then down came the lightning on me
Love can be frightening for sure

All I know at the end of the day
Is you want what you want and you say what you say
And you follow your heart even though it'll break
Sometimes
All I know at the end of the day
Is you love who you love, there ain't no other way
If there's something I learned from a million mistakes
You're the one that I want at the end of the day
(At the end of the day)

When the sun goes down
I know that you and me and everything'll be alright
And when the city's sleeping
You and I can stay awake and keep on dreaming
You and I can stay awake and keep on dreaming

All I know at the end of the day
Is you want what you want and you say what you say
And you follow your heart even though it'll break
Sometimes
All I know at the end of the day
Is you love who you love, there ain't no other way
If there's something I learned from a million mistakes
You're the one that I want at the end of the day
(At the end of the day, yeah)
At the end of the day
You're the one that I want at the end of the day
(At the end of the day)
You're the one that I want at the end of the day

    Song Meaning

// "I told her that I loved her, just not sure if she heard. The roof was pretty windy and she didn't say a word Party died downstairs, had nothing left to do. Just me, her and the moon" // This is in the perspective of someone who obviously has a crush on a girl. As I read this I imagine the narrator and the girl sitting alone on a rooftop while a party goes on downstairs. // "I said you're on fire babe. Then down came the lightning on me. Love can be frightening for sure" // The narrator confesses their love to the girl. Then "the lightning came down on me" I think means that someone or mutiple people told them no. "love can be frightening for sure" means that the narrator wasn't expecting what happened to their relationship. // "All I know at the end of the day is you want what you want and you say what you say. And you'll follow your heart even though it'll break sometimes. All I know at the end of the day is love who you love. There ain't no other way. If there's something I've learnt from a million mistakes, You're the one that I want at the end of the day." The chorus has quite a lot of meaning to it. Although it could be about a girl and a boy, I think this song about a same sex relationship. I think this because of the lyrics "you love who you love, there ain't no other way". The narrator sounds like a person who finally begins to accept themselves in terms of their sexuality. in the line "if there's something I learned for a million mistakes", it sounds as if they've tried to deny who they were before, maybe trying to fall in love with someone of the opposite sex but then to later learn that that wasn't who they were. but at the end of the day, they realized who they loved and wanted and the was no other way. // "Said the night was over, I said it's forever. Twenty minutes later wound up in the hospital. The priest thinks it's the devil. My mum thinks it's the flu. But girl it's only you." // This verse is what makes me really believe this song is about a same sex couple (I think girl and girl because they use female pronouns through the song but it could be about a boy and boy). the line "the priest thinks it's the devil", means that they think that love someone of the same gender is a sin. "my mum thinks it's the flu", means that their mum thinks that it's a phase. "but girl it's only you" means that no matter what people say about them, they truly believe that they love them. Then the second verse and chorus repeats. // "When the sun goes I know that you and me and everything will be alright. And when the city's sleeping, you and I can stay awake and keep on dreaming. You and I can stay awake and keep on dreaming". // This verse is self explanatory but they are talking about when they go to sleep, they believe that when they wake up, everything will be ok for them. Then the chourus repeats.

    General Comment

most of the fandom interprets this song as being about a same gender relationship (specifically between two girls). it highlights the potential anxieties and mishaps going into the relationship, but accepting them as apart of it since loving each other is, at the end of the day, all that matters.

    My Interpretation

I do not take this as same-sex relationships only. I think it is about: a) saying "I love you" to a relationship that is at different levels in one party's eyes, then the next is the b) telling a crush that you like them, and then needing time to sort everything else. This is applicable to any sexuality.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
