"Save Our Last Goodbye" as written by Dan Donegan, Mike Wengren and David Draiman....
Don't wanna hear it's over
What a rude awakening
Angel of death has come and ripped you from my life

I can't stand the devastation
Relentless agony
Hope that I get to see you on the other side

Blue sky has turned to blackest night
Now you're gone, it just isn't right

Save our last goodbye
Embedded in my mind, your face will never leave me
Save our last goodbye
It's killing me that I won't get to hear your laughter anymore

What faith I had is broken
And I question everything
And those shards of doubt begin to penetrate my heart

With every waking hour
Within everything I see
The shadows of your loss are tearing my apart

Blue sky has turned to blackest night
Now you're gone, it just isn't right

Save our last goodbye
Embedded in my mind, your face will never leave me
Save our last goodbye
It's killing me that I won't get to hear your laughter anymore

My world is shattered and disarrayed
I'm beaten down, drained emotionally
They say in time the pain goes away
But in my soul it will forever stay

Save our last goodbye
Embedded in my mind, your face will never leave me
Save our last goodbye
It's killing me that I won't get to hear your laughter

Save our last goodbye
Embedded in my mind, your face will never leave me
Save our last goodbye
It's killing me that I won't get to hear your laughter anymore

Song MeaningThis song is supposedly about one of Draiman's friends with pancreatic cancer who died just after surgery. The opening bars include a voicemail from said friend where he is hoping for good news, before the song starts in earnest.

My InterpretationThe song is basically stating that a loved one died before you could ever get a chance to say goodbye.

MemoryThere was a friend in school. At first I misunderstood what this friend was trying to say to me we were the opposite sex and I told him I was married. This friend continued to talk to me to try to make me understand that because of a mistake they were dying. They had a professor to help them explain they were dying. and that I needed to leave my spouse because they could make a mistake. They told me that my spouse was seeing others unsafely. It took a long time for me to understand to believe. They wanted their death to mean something to save someone before they were gone. They got to hear that I was getting a divorce and I got to say goodbye. They wouldn't see me after the told me. One day I saw them on the street with a friend helping them I they saw me - they new i was saying goodbye. Couple weeks later we got an email from school that someone had past in the dorm and it was natural causes. I knew it was my friend and now I knew why I saw them that day - they wanted to say goodbye. I think of them when I hear this song. I will never forget their smile and what a kind, sweet person they were.
