I tried to face the fight within
But it's over
I'm ready for the riot to begin and surrender
I walked the path, it led me to the end, remember
I'm caught beneath with nothing left to give, forever

When angels fall with broken wings
I can't give up, I can't give in
When all is lost and daylight ends
I'll carry you and we will live forever, forever

Grey skies will chase the light away, no longer
I fought the fight, now only dark remains forever

Divided I will stand
And I will let this end

When angels fall with broken wings
I can't give up, I can't give in
When all is lost and daylight ends
I'll carry you and we will live forever, forever

The sun begins to rise and wash away the sky
The turning of the tide, don't leave it all behind
And I will never say goodbye

When angels fall with broken wings
I can't give up, I can't give in
When all is lost and daylight ends
I'll carry you and we will live forever, forever
Forever, forever

    My Interpretation

Hai! Just signed up so I can share my thoughts on this song with you! ^^

I always try to get positive things out of Breaking Benjamins songs. With this song it happened again :)

The angels in this song could be those you love, like family, friends or even your schoolteachers :D

The angels fall because they have broken wings. They have broken wings, because they have some kind of problem(s).

Then you come to try to solve these problems for your angels. Even if it doens't help much, you won't give up. You keep supporting your angels. You will always be there for them even when it's hopeless!

That's the kind of theme I am thinking in when listening to this song. Try to follow the lyrics with this theme in your mind. And then.......OMG THE FEELS!!

The song is some kind of negative, but it shows how to handle that negativity with positivity. That's why I think that this is a beautiful song!

    Hope you liked it! :D

When we are born we're all "angels" - we do what we're told and we are innocent. We eventually fall from grace in sin. We all have to rise up through dark times and be resilience. We all have to bounce back and pick each other up during rough times. That's what humanity is all about! Being selfless, helping others in times of need, and rising from the ashes like a Phoenix ourselves!

    My Interpretation

This is what I get. To me, it sounds like the person in question is also there to be an angel of their angel, if that makes sense? Whether their angel is a family member or a good friend, that angel is always there to comfort them. However, when the angel is having problems themselves, the author steps in and feels obligated to comfort their angel. Basically, if someone is always their to comfort you and make you feel better, you should do the same for them if they are in need. To me, that sounds like what's going on in this song.

    Song Meaning

This is a song about suicide. IMO the other interpretations go for the obvious (except the currently highest rated one, but I still think it's not completely right).

VERSE 1: I tried to face the fight within But it's over I'm ready for the riot to begin and surrender

The person this song is about was unable to conquer their inner issues (likely mental illness or addiction) and now time has run out with no hope for a solution, they now have to face the consequences of their failure. They have no resolve to fight against them and give in to negativity and become consumed with hopelessness.

I walked the path, it led me to the end, remember I'm caught beneath with nothing left to give, forever

They blame themselves for where they have ended up because they were fully aware of the inevitable conclusion of their harmful decisions yet they were too weak to stop themselves from making those decisions (like taking drugs/drinking or letting their life fall apart due to depression or some form of mental anguish). Now they are completely trapped underneath the weight of the world after having buried themselves. The rest of their life they will live with the incredible guilt and feelings of helplessness while also feeling like they have failed the world due to their uselessness ("nothing left to give")

CHORUS: When angels fall with broken wings

This is where I really disagree with the present interpretations. To me, the line actually means "IN A WORLD where angels fall with broken wings," as if to demonstrate the depth of the world's corruption and hopelessness by suggesting that the state of humanity is so dire and so cold that the purest beings in existence are crippled by it and are powerless to save us. The subject of the song sees the world as incredibly hostile and antagonistic because their own issues make them (feel) persecuted by mere existence.

    I can't give up, I can't give in

Many apparently think this is about strengthening resolve but I believe it's the exact opposite. It's about being completely and (I keep using this word) hopelessly trapped in a situation with no solution. They can't find a way to go on by themselves but neither can they right whatever wrongs they have done and either way will be forced to see themselves as villainous.

When all is lost and daylight ends

"When I have died and everything is gone," daylight being a metaphor for consciousness

I'll carry you and we will live forever, for ever

This line determines that the subject of the song is in fact speaking to someone. The "you" in this case seems to refer to whomever might be reading their suicide note (since the song seems like that's what it is, diagetically). They're saying in their ideal version of the afterlife they would have the strength to "carry" who they are speaking to instead of being weak and unreliable and that they would be able to be happy together forever, however because it's such a naive and fantastic existence it implies that the singer knows deep down that it could never happen.

VERSE 2: Grey skies will chase the light away, no longer I fought the fight, now only dark remains forever

Basically the same as the first verse. Singer was troubled in life and it ruined their opportunities to be happy and fulfilled (grey skies chasing away the light), however that won't happen anymore (because they're going to die/are dead). They struggled to survive and be productive but it doesn't matter now (because they're going to die/are dead).

Divided I will stand And I will let this end

They are singled out because of their issues and the darkness that is taking hold of them (or has done so their entire lives and is now running over). They are standing up and building up the courage to do what they should have done a long time ago and kill themselves ("I will LET this end," as if they are allowing it rather than forcing it, implying it is a natural conclusion to their life)

    CHORUS AGAIN

BRIDGE VERSE: The sun begins to rise and wash away the sky

The sun comes up and the world is now going on without them, oblivious to their struggles and suicide.

The turning of the tide, don't leave it all behind

They are telling the "you" person from before that they shouldn't be like them, don't make the same mistakes they did. They should stay on Earth and live a normal life and move on without the singer.

And I will never say goodbye

They're saying that even if they couldn't function in life and wish to die, that doesn't mean they're turning their back on anyone or anything. They don't want whomever they are communicating with to feel hurt or lost because they are gone and they don't want to make them feel like it's their fault. They aren't going to say goodbye because they want to slip away from everyone and everything on earth as quietly and insignificantly as possible because deep down they don't want to hurt anyone.

    CHORUS AGAIN

Well, that's how I see it. Pretty morbid but it's the interpretation that fits the lyrics the best in my opinion.

    My Interpretation

Recently Breaking Benjamin released the music video to this song. I think the meanings to both are somewhat close. The lyrics I think are about a boyfriend and girlfriend trying to get past problems together. One of the problems is that they both have had abuse in the past but one of them have been able to get by that and right now the other is breaking down do to the abuse. When the "Angels fall with broken wings" meaning the couple because the one is going down to try and help the other get back up together as one. It is also says how "I will never give up, I will never give in" saying how he will personally be their with her forever. The video, I think that is definitely about a family trying to get by together as they go through terrible things. Throughout the video you see what looks like a father and daughter fighting and a grandmother and grandson fighting. Then when you reach the end, the grandparents reunite and you see the love between them and you see the mother run to her son and holding him. Right after that you see a memorial saying that 4 family members were lost out at sea, a mother and son, and a husband and wife.

    My Interpretation

There seems to be a contrast between the verse and chorus. In the verses its all BB-style negative and the chorus (lyric and music wise) sounds more uplifting and positive. This song could be another "If you're sad, dont give up and feel good song".

this song in my opinion is about a loved one being broken (broken wings) and you being there to pick them up and helping them have hope in life

That's what Redskins wrote below as their interpretation, and I agree

I think this song switches between perspectives. At first he's talking about the hopelessness one person feels, but in the chorus it seems like he's saying he wants to be there for this person. He eventually makes it about seeing that there is more than this person sees. Life can be more and he'll be there until they find what's worth living for. Either that or he's been there and when the perspective seems to change, it's really him paying the favor forward to the next person in need. He found the way back to a life he could live and now he wants to do the same for someone else.

I was thinking this is how he may have felt about the former drummer of breaking benjamin and basicly if thats true maybe he was thinking about the former drummer years after had enough was written so maybe those two songs are connected in a way. I know that in my own way that i can relate to both of those songs and that both of those songs are connected in my own way too. had enough in my own way to me is directed at me by the system(wont verify which). and I feel that angels fall is directed about how sorry i feel for the way I hurt those who worked for the system who actually tried to help me and at the same time I want to change and lead other people down the right path so they dont end up like me.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
