Sleep, baby, sleep
Daddy's out to earn your keep
Sleep, baby, sleep
Mama's sad, hear her weep.
Watching over you tonight
I get the feeling that life's alright.
You can laugh aloud at those middle-aged fakes
Well I hope you don't make the same mistakes as me
Don't you do as I do, do as I say
Sleep, baby, sleep
Mama's out to earn your keep
Sleep, baby, sleep
Daddy's mad, hear him creep.
Watching over you tonight
I get the feeling that life's alright.
You can laugh aloud at those middle-aged fakes
Well I hope you don't make the same mistakes as me
Don't you do as I do, do as I say
Sleep, baby, sleep

To me this song is deeply soothing. Every time I hear it I can just.. melt into the music, I suppose. The story this song paints in my head is as follows: There is a child, with not the best family life. Daddy's always working, and when he isn't, he's angry. Mama's always working, and when she isn't, she's sad. Aforementioned child has it rougher than other children, but doesn't seem to mind in the slightest. They have a friend, he's made of smooth shadow, and he likes to climb into their bedroom window, crawl around on the walls, and sing the child to sleep. (Bonus: shadow creature takes the child away to keep them safe forever! And the story begins again.)
