In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

This song is about the departure of the best metal drummer to ever kick a double bass.. "The morning star" is an expression often used to describe Jesus which was joeys mask.. And if your a true knot fan you will pick up on the other subtle things mentioned in the song.. I could rant and explain each one but where is the fun in that? Corey has said that it is NOT about Joey, so i just want everyone to stop kissing Joey's ass because he used to be an awesome drummer. But the fact is, in the last few years he was in Slipknot he was acting like a complete dick! Putting triggers on an acoustic drum kit to somehow make up for the lack of talent he had all through 2008-2013 is not what I'd call "one of the best drummers ever".
@One:27993Fuq actually... the morning star is what they use to refer to Lucifer.<br /> In fact Lucifer literally means "Morning Star" "The Lord of lies" could be a reference to Belial (As referenced in Diablo 3 as the lord of lies) which in the Jewish faith is also the Devil.<br /> So no, unless Slipknot are literally calling Joey "the devil" this song is not about him.
