All About That Bass Lyrics
Oi, oi, oi
Oi, oi, oi
Oi, oi, oi
Oi, oi, oi
On your color TV screen
Out for all that I can get
If you know what I mean
Women to the left of me
And women to the right
Ain't got no gun
Ain't got no knife
Don't you start no fight
T.N.T., and I'll win the fight
T.N.T., I'm a power load
T.N.T., watch me explode
I'm a wanted man
Public enemy number one
Understand?
So lock up your daughter
Lock up your wife
Lock up your back door
Run for your life
The man is back in town
Don't you mess me 'round
T.N.T., and I'll win the fight
T.N.T., I'm a power load
T.N.T., watch me explode
T.N.T. (oi, oi, oi)
T.N.T. (oi, oi, oi)
T.N.T. (oi, oi, oi)
T.N.T. (oi, oi, oi)
I'm dynamite (oi, oi)
T.N.T. (oi, oi, oi)
And I'll win the fight (oi, oi, oi)
T.N.T. (oi, oi, oi)
I'm a power load (oi, oi, oi)
T.N.T.
Watch me explode
We all know what the song means, it's pretty obvious. But let's take a step deeper into the lyrics and music video.
This is a direct indication of what the music industry has become. Sure, she's not romanticizing skinniness as most singers do, but she's romanticizing having a bit more weight just to grab the attention of an audience. That's all this song really is- an attention-seeking song. It has nothing to do with weight or anything- she's essentially using the media to get attention just like everyone else, hence the catchy music and lyrics.
It's kind of like reverse psychology, but reverse psychology by using the same concept. Her lyrics might advertise being yourself as opposed to being a big star, but they imply the idea that she's still using the media to put herself over the top. Essentially, I see this song having the same message as Lady Gaga or Katy Perry- seeking attention at its best.
not at all. its a fresh style going on, like a 50s thing going on. i like it, she's talented and i could think oh no better song to be a debut song.

I think the fact that she says "skinny bitches" really hurts her credibility for the audience she is trying to convey. This puts her no higher than anyone else on the music scale.

It's about a fat girl who's fat. She doesn't think she's fat, but she is. Her mom tells her boys like fat girls, but that's really just a way to soothe her feels. Then there's a bunch of stuff about how skinny girls aren't real (which I am perplexed by, or I'm not reading it correctly. Hard to say.). She dislikes self-improvement. I think that's crux of it. It might also be about the Vietnam war.
I didn't think so deep. All I thought was that when she refers to 'that bass' she's referring to the current trend of big bootie, instead of big boobs! Shallow me :)
I completely agree

But what about the "All about the Bass, no treble"?
The only thing I can think of is that Bass is "deeper". If not too much of a stretch, then this suggests that skinner people have less to offer. I'm not sure this is necessarily fair. But this post is about song meaning, not "fairness".
"Yeah it's pretty clear, I ain't no size two But I can shake it, shake it like I'm supposed to do 'Cause I got that boom boom that all the boys chase All the right junk in all the right places"

The first thing that sprang to mind for me, when hearing this song, is the shape of a string bass. :)

Singer is all about a sturdy foundation for relationships.
Bass is a foundational element of music. The other instruments are nice but need to be anchored in an ensemble.
Novel way of pointing out judging by looks is shallow.
Secondarily, historically instruments like the bass and tuba are designed larger to get those low notes. So this song works on that level as well.
It's about body acceptance. It tells that the skinny image is overrated and celebrates men and women of all sizes and shapes.
Oh I'm soooo FATTTTT!!!! :'( Don't worry, mommy told me guys like big ass (wiggle). Fuck those skinny bitches...
Fats Domino did the same thing back in the 1950s, and is everyone making fun of him?
